What factors determine financial aid given by med schools?

I understand that stats and income levels matter.

I am confused as to which is given priority and the types of aid that is offered by medical schools.

I see a lot of posts about people being offered full rides etc. and was wondering what is required for that.

Everyone has access to the same federal loans. Very little need-based aid (grants) is given, based on you and your parents' income. Scholarships are normally merit-based.
 
EFC is a big one for a lot of schools.
Some schools give merit, so grades / ECs
I've heard of Legacy in the past, too.
 
Frankly, I don't enjoy the idea that large medical school scholarships are given to students who have had previous family as legacy....
