Congrats! Just finishing up my first year it looks like 
, and pretty much all the things you heard were true. It's going to be challenging, and you're going to have to figure out -- adaptively, if that's a word -- how YOU can best learn the mammoth of material. Trial and error is going to be part of that process no matter how much you "prepare." Don't stop living your life just to do school, whatever that means for you. And since you haven't started yet... live life to the fullest in the mean time!
