This is for a friend of mine, deciding where to attend next fall.
She got into Tufts, BU, SUNY Stony Brook, SUNY buffalo, and USC (waitlisted @ Columbia). At this point, glad to be anywhere learning dentistry, but still has to decide.
Her family is in LA, and she's thinking to practice in LA after d-school. She has a brother in Boston, but otherwise considers Boston relatively "cold" in terms of weather. Tentatively decided to narrow the list, setting aside BU and Buffalo for the moment.
ANY Help/Perspective you First years/Upperclassmen might have? Info you know bout these schools? Maybe you go to these schools? or also had to make a similar decision?
THINGS WE WANT TO KNOW:
--> What is each school's "reputation" among adcoms for post-graduate/specialty programs.
--> How do you think of each school's teaching program (PBL vs. traditional, classes quality and structure).
--> How's the social atmosphere -- classmates/upperclassmen, student club/research activity, local nightlife/entertainment.
--> How does the class size affect your time in school.
--> Finally, my friend appeciates a free lunch and hopes to get those too in d-school (just kidding!).
