Why are EM doctors so scared of lawyers

I think non docs or maybe even residents miss the point. The fear isnt about being sued and losing or settling. it is really just about being sued.
I completely agree. how about even the basic things like:
-telling your future employers
-possibly being ran out of the your job or state (someone posted this earlier)
-I attended a course on credentialing last year, in FL if you had any dings on your record, including complaints to board of medicine for anything you're considered a level 2 and may not get credentials (1 clean record, 3 is high risk)
-having to pay to go to a med board to explain your case when you get your license (this happen to someone i know)
-anger, resentment, depression....ever wonder how that's going to affect your family?
-thinking that each and every patient encounter, they're going to run you though that legal gambit again

I also agree we're not helping the system any with defensive medicine but then the system is not helping us either
