Why are so many schools slow with invites this year?

I have been looking at threads from last year and by this time, several schools already started sending out interview invites already. This year, only about a handful of colleges have done so already. What's up with this year?

Because many people are getting interviews and it's frustrating for the rest of us waiting to hear anything back.

Doc toothache stats sheets show that the amount of applicants has remained steady throughout recent years.
