I have 2 upper wisdom teeth which have cavities in them and are painful. I asked my dental office to refer me to an oral surgeon. Today the dentist office tells me that my insurance is not going to cover the extraction of my wisdom teeth. Is this normal? Does insurance usually not cover wisdom teeth extractions? I am in incredible pain and I don't think I can afford to pay out of pocket for these extractions. Is my insurance being shady?

Ummh, that's strange! Your insurance should definitely cover the extractions. You can come to a dental school. Regular extraction about $52/tooth. Surgical extraction (impacted tooth) about $80/tooth
