it seems like stanford's new curriculum seems to be doing something right. they appear to have the highest board scores in the country. wow. i wonder if their new curriculum will influence their clinical skills they get.......any thoughts from current stanford med students? stanford sounds like a great place but it's be good to get some opinions from clinical students. good luck to everyone in the process!

here's the reference to the board scores claim:

Stanford's attitude towards finishing in 5 or 6 years might also contribute.

I take it you are referring to this paragraph (just for those who don't want to search for it):

While this outcome needs to be interpreted carefully, it is the case that the first class entering the New Curriculum scored spectacularly on the USLME Step 1. Indeed, of the 64 students who took the exam, the pass rate was 100%, with a mean score of 237 and a median of 241. This is likely the highest score in the nation. Of course this result reflects the quality of the students taking the exam, but I believe it is also a sign of the impact of the New Curriculum on their knowledge base.

I guess it's worth mentioning that that only 64 out of 86 students in the class took the exam from the new curriculum, but it's still an awesome average.

good, i was getting the idea that something was wrong with stanford after people starting hating on it in this thread:

There was a question on the supplementary about how you feel that Stanford's new curriculum will help you accomplish your career goals. I'm kinda excited about it. And i'm still hopeful about an acceptance --- I haven't gotten that thin envelope in the mail yet. . . .

I was under the impression that UF had the highest board scores.

Anyone?

Nobody knows who has the highest average, except the NBME, and they're not telling. If you read the Stanford newsletter it's clear that they are only speculating about having the highest average in the country.

Not that a school's average matters anyway, but that argument seems to be lost on SDN's pre-allo crowd.

I was under the same impression, but after looking over the data provided during my UF interview it seems I may be mistaken. UF's class of '07 had a mean score of 234. Still excellent, but 3 points below Stanford's claim.

All I know is Stanford medical school is awesome. The weather in Palo Alto is close to perfect with a happening San Francisco only 35 minutes away! The attention the 85 students receive per class is unmatched. The campus is amazing and the pass/fail currriculum makes for the best atmosphere.

You realize no one from Stanford's ADCOM is reading this right? 🙄 :meanie:
