Hi everyone,

I am a non-traditional student / career changer. I submitted my FAFSA in late January / early February, intending to apply to my local in-state SMP. I now think that I would instead benefit from more upper division undergraduate sciences at my local 4-year.

So far I have paid for my post-bacc (2 years) out of pocket and have not received any loans from the government.

I submitted my FAFSA with the intention of being a "graduate student" and put the SMP program on the list of schools. Now I want instead to get loans (however minimal in amount) to continue taking more upper division sciences courses.

Does anyone know how/if I can do this???

Thanks!

You have to get the school to decide you're eligible for financial aid. Usually you have to be degree-seeking, but sometimes you can get "5th year postbac" status. Usually you have to be admitted as a regular student, vs. non-matriculated or extension or otherwise just taking some classes. So go see the financial aid office first. This is going to be the hard part.

Then you can update your FAFSA to include another school. That will be the easy part.

Best of luck to you.

Hi there. I'm already matriculating as a "degree-seeking" candidate at the school so I should be eligible for financial aid insofar as ANY second degree student is. Luckily the tuition is pretty low at my state school so I should only have to about $2000 out of pocket for the next year.

I fixed my FAFSA and said that I would be pursuing a second bachelor's instead of a graduate/professional degree at the SMP and updated the school list. I think that's all that needs to be done, for now....

You can usually go in and change your FAFSA anytime you'd like.
