Hi! I had posted this before but updating based on second-look days. Looking for insight on these schools. I am looking to match into IM in California, ideally. I am OOO to both of these schools.

UColorado
Pros
:
Strong reputation
Strong research background
Numerous CA matches
Ample mentorship

Cons:
Climate— I do not want to be in a cold area, after growing up in the Northeast. I visited Ucolorado this weekend at accepted students’ day, and the weather was awful. Not into snow sports so couldn’t picture myself there.
2) students seemed somewhat burnt out with the 1-year preclinical curriculum. Some mentioned that I “caught them at their bad time,” given they haven’t had a break since Christmas but have a spring break next week.
3) Didn’t seem to vibe with the students much

Creighton Phoenix:
Pros:

-Jesuit school— I admire the service orientation
-Decent CA matches
-100% match

Cons:
-Ranked lower

Colorado 100%

I understand about the winter but the rest of the year in CO are to die for. Not to mention, excellent resources and quality match. CO is also the only school in town.

Creighton PHX is lowest on the totem pole currently in PHX (Mayo, UAPHX, then Creighton). Research is scarce and external opportunities are competitive with the other schools in town.

Also you are paying a bag for both schools. CO is a better bang for your buck.

Wanted to add to this— am I crazy to choose Creighton PHX!? I am in CO visiting again and cannot find a single thing I like about it here *sigh*

I was on the waitlist for Colorado and withdrew. I personally do not like the school. BUT it is objectively a great school with a ton of oppurutnites and great match, and is better than Creighton. also with Phoenix having so many med schools, you may be fighting for opportunities. Colorado is the only med school in the state so you'd have everything you need. I think it's the easy winner here. It seems like you don't like the area, but is that enough to say no to the opportunities? That is a personal decision you need to make. I saw your other post about prestige vs location, and I think Colorado wins this battle. Talk with some mentors and close people about this decision.

Thanks, this is really helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I know. Without question, it is the better school, I just hate the area. Will talk with mentors and decide!

Is it specifically aurora or Colorado? Colorado is considered one of the most beautiful states!

I couldn’t find a single beautiful place in Denver! The neighborhoods were all horrible looking 😭
