Hey im still a med student but i want to get some plastic surgeries done as a resident when I start making my own money, i was wondering if i will have enough time to recover ? For the surgeries that I am considering i thikn u gotta rest for a solid 2 weeks, I know that most residency programs give you 4 weeks off, I am wondering if its possible that I stack them together?

Will I have the time to do this as a resident?

Doubt it.

Most residencies only give time off in a week chunk at a time. This has to do with maintaining consistent staffing, call coverage and backup assignments.

Don’t forget the time you would also miss some work for pre-procedure / post-procedure follow-ups. Depending on desired speciality you are hoping to match into, it may be more difficult to get additional time away.

You're not going to be making that much money as a resident.

Elective plastic surgery? Like a BBL? Probably not a good idea.

Was about to say the same thing. You won't have the cash or the time for cosmetic surgery as a resident.

Finish training, get a job and then go to town on whatever you feel needs "fixing".

Also, if you were to end up with complications and start missing time, would cause all sorts of problems. bad idea all around unless it's something truly critical. Which isn't "elective plastic surgery"

Also, the more you become involved in medicine (training, practice etc), the less you'll want a surgeon to ever touch you. Especially in Mexico. Please dont go to Mexico for plastic surgery

Yeah this is my general feeling on surgery. I don’t intend on ever having it unless it’s something urgent/emergent.

I’ve seen way too many disasters that happened even during “routine procedures”. **** happens when you put people asleep and then start cutting them open…

I had "plastic surgery" as a resident 20 years ago. Then again, it was LASIK, and recovery was about 10 minutes.

Would avoid any elective cosmetic procedures as a resident. If it’s a QOL procedure like for contractures or disfiguring scars (conditions that otherwise don’t compromise your ability to be a doctor) then talk to your PD about getting 4-6wk off for recovery, but if it’s purely cosmetic like eyelids or buccal fat nonsense or bolt ons, do that when you can take multiple weeks consecutively off.
