Hello,

I am writing the MCAT this August, and I have had some trouble starting the daunting process of studying for it. I am not sure whether I should review all of the material first, or do an AAMC practice test to see where I stand and then look at the material.

It just seems like there is so much material and I was wondering how effective sitting down and memorizing all of it really is, before doing practice tests.

If anyone has any insight on this, that would be great.

Thanks
Neel

i think your best bet would be to review all the material first just to reacquaint yourself with it...then take a practice test to see your weaknesses and go from there

I was just wondering if someone who is knowledgeable about these two programs could talk a little about the pros and cons and which one is the better one to take to prepare? (Money should be taken into consideration). Thanks!!!

Obviously a prep company that names themselves after the actual test is going to be the best! MCAT all the way!!!

I've done some searching/reading on the various topics involving this matter, but have been overwhelmed with the information so far.

I recently graduated with a degree in chemistry, so i have a decent/good science background. I plan on taking the MCAT sometime in august, but haven't been able to decide on study supplements/courses.

So what would most of you recommend, as far as books, online courses, etc. Still on the fence about quite a few things, especially the Kaplan prep classes, which I've heard are a waste of time. Would EK books be sufficient? Should i get the Kaplan online prep? I'm just so confused with everything. I want to begin my studying ASAP, no later than June 1st.

All help will be appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed ad nauseam.

I think it kind of depends on your preferences. If you feel strong in the sciences, then I think you might just want to go ahead and use EK since their books are quick and well-suited for brief review. At least half of this test is practice though, and the EK books will not give you enough practice. While EK's 1001 series will be helpful (particularly verbal and bio), you might want to see if you can get The Princeton Review's Hyperlearning Science Workbook and/or The Berkeley Review course books (they come with a ton of practice passages).

I guess what I'm looking for is more of a book/series of books that review the fundamentals of each subject for those who have taken some classes a few years ago.

I already have books of practice questions and tests, but need something that acts more of a refresher.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks!

Oh, and I have noticed the plethora of "best mcat prep book" threads so I do apologize for that. But if someone is still willing to answer my specific, possibly redundant question that would be great.

almost all books act as a refresher

kaplan goes slightly more in depth than EK. no clue about the princeton review or berkeley.

but in short, there is no "best" or we would all use the same book :d

diff ppl like to mix and match books. but to be honest most books present 99% of the same info, just say it in different ways.
