Hi,

I have 'Biology' by Campbell and it is considered a good book [also a text book]. However, I have problems understanding the chemistry part of the text.
Could you please suggest a good book for Chemistry that will be good for MCAT as a whole. I had a basic course in chem as I was an engineering major [long ime ago]?

thanks

I would suggest "Chemistry: The Central Science" by Brown, Lemay and Burston...I think a few others on here will back me up on this.

I would generally agree....I used this book in class last year...its fairly clear...although I did not read a large portion of it...

I too have used Chemistry: The Central Science from Brown in my gen chem classes...but this summer, I used another gen chem book from Silberberg called Chemistry: The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change which was referenced in one of my passages during the August MCAT (form FM). It's pretty good to follow, in my opinion.

Zumdahl is a pretty good textbook. Chang has some good "random inserts" that seem to be good MCAT topics. But by far, the best general chemistry book for the MCAT is the Berkeley Review General Chemistry book. It will give you the text review you need and it has passages. Check eBay and see if you can pick it up cheap. If not, I think you can buy just the general chemistry book from their website, although you might have to buy them all.

#1) Use your lecture notes and textbook
#2) Buy the Kaplan class books on EBay (and flash cards).
