Congrats and good luck. 🙂 Don't forget to read the SDN interview feedback for those schools!

Secondaries done in January? I think I'm missing something... 😕

Anyway, good luck with the interviews! :luck: 👍

This is UN-freaking-BELIEVABLE. I'm here at home on a Sat., surfing SDN actually ( 😛 ), and the doorbell rings. My roommate and I weren't expecting anyone, so I ask who it is, and it's the mailman with an express mail package that needs to be signed. It's for me. Well, I sign it, and I see that the return address is from Wash. U. So I rip it open, but I already know what it is going to say. OMG, I'VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO WASH U!!!!! :wow:

Here's a big question for everyone... how many people get express mail packages straight to their door with acceptances?

*doesn't raise hand*

Oops, my bad. My secondaries were all finished in early November.

Congrats Q!

Common, Q. You HAD to know with an MCAT in the 99.99999999 percentile, you'd get accepted by THE number 1 "numbers ho". 🙄 :meanie:

Just kidding, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! 👍 Dam girl, how ARE you going to decide where to matriculate next year? 😕

Thanks, you guys. I actually expected them to waitlist me. Their class is extremely young (I met NO non-trads during the three days I was there, save for one 27-year-old 7th year MSTP student), they interview 1200 people for ~120 spots (only ~100 of which go to straight MD students, the rest to MSTP students), and I have no GPA, while their avg. GPA is ridiculous (3.9 according to the MSAR). Yes, they liked my MCAT score, but the interviewer even warned me he wasn't sure how things would work out b/c of my having no GPA. He said he'd do the best he could for me though. 😎

Right now I don't know where I'm going to end up. If one school offers me $$ and the rest don't, that will make the decision very easy. Wash U's tuition is no joke at $40k per year. 😱

This whole "deciding which med school to go to" deal has gotten more confusing. The school ranked 4th out of my 4 acceptances has just given me a $30,000/year Dean's Scholarship! That's really difficult to turn down....

Congrat's Q!

Congrats Q,

come on, 40k isn't too bad. You just have to pick a high paying specialty. 😛

tito,

damn, 30k/year would be really hard to turn down. You could borrow just 15,000/year and live well while in medical schoo.

congrats to both of you.

Wow, tito, that's awesome news--congrats!!

Wow, congratulations! I was under the impression financial aid wasn't offered until after FAFSA was turned in. I guess I was severely misinformed...

I think merit scholarships can be offered at the school's discretion. The scholarship letter states that I will still be considered for financial aid (grants, loans) after the FAFSA is completed.

I though maybe she was one of those "way ahead of the pack" types that knew what most of the essay prompts were and worked on them way ahead of time... 😀

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I'm a daddy now, and all it took was 36 hours of labor, 4 hours of pushing, and a C-section. Happy with a cute little girl, but very tired. 🙂

Congrats to all of the good news lately!

Wow, congrats to you on your good news, blee! :hardy: I had forgotten that your wife was pregnant.

Congratulations, Blee! I am sure she is just adorable! I'm so happy for you! 😀 🙂 😛 😎

I'm heading down to Santa Barbara for the holiday weekend and won't be checking in for a few days. So I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Oh, and congrats, Blee! What a wonderful gift for your family... 😍

Congratulations blee and everybody have a happy holiday!

Congrats to Blee on your new addition, that is awesome!

Big Congrats to all you Non-Trads with all your fabulous acceptances!

As for me, U of AZ interview at the school went great, I am still trying to set up the second half of my interview because I had personal family issues come crashing down around me! If any of you had checked my profile you may have read about my very ill grandfather. He is an inspiration to me and a serious motivating factor as one of the reasons I am really hoping to get into medical school this year. Both he and my father are surgeons and now I have finally decided to try to carry on the family tradition of becoming a physician (probably not a surgeon, I am very interested in Women's Health)! Anyway, I was really hoping he would make a turn towards recovery with the hope that he would be able to "white coat" me at whatever school I get lucky with. Well, I went to be with him this past weekend to make my peace, show my support and say my goodbyes and I had the honor of staying up with him all night one night since his home-health night nurse kept falling asleep on the job (yeah 15 minutes into her shift that started at 11pm she was snoozing away on the couch!) Well, he knew I was there and I got his piece of advice on becoming an excellent physician: "Treat every patient like they are your favorite patient!" Steven Oristian, M.D. So I stayed in upstate NY through Sunday afternoon drove back to MD then flew back to AZ on Monday, when I found out he slipped into a coma sometime during the night on Sunday. I found out yesterday he passed away, so I am flying to MD on Thanksgiving and driving to NY on Friday! I am just lucky and blessed that I got to spend time with him during his last coherent hours!

On a more positive note, I found out last week that my husband has been offered a job in Detroit, MI. I was able to get my MSU application in right on the deadline and they are holding my application to review before sending me a secondary at this time. In addition, remember how bummed I was about Wayne State giving me my first official rejection, well there is still hope yet. Since we will be relocating to Michigan before the school year starts and because it is my husband's job bringing us to Detroit, I will technically be a Michigan resident. So I called Wayne State and they have scheduled a telephone conference for me with the Dean on Tuesday! Hopefully, I can get them to reopen my file and still consider me since they have 260 seats, 230 of which are for Michigan residents...wish me luck.

Anyway, I think I will be officially complete with AZ after next Friday if I can finish up my community physician interview on Friday then I can still get considered for the first round of notifications that go out at the end of January/beginning of February. Still no word from UMich or any of the Maryland/DC schools other than I am complete and in the review process. Waiting on secondary for MSU and hopefully Wayne State if they reopen my file in light of my new circumstances!

Anyway....For the love of God will one of the schools in Michigan please accept me so I don't have to resent my husband for getting a fabulous new job or so we don't have to split up our little family so I can go to med school!

Happy Thanksgiving to All of you!

Thanks, guys. 🙂 And Happy Thanksgiving to everyone; it's kinda obvious what the Blee household is celebrating, but we all have things to be thankful for.

On the med school front, not much new; I've gotten a couple of notices that my application withdrawals have been accepted, but that's about it.

I didn't know your wife was pregnant. I actually thought you were female, so that might have contributed 😛

Me too!! 😳 Funny. Most SDNers with gender confusion are females assumed to be male, not vice versa. Congrats blee!

 Seriously, you guys are just so not nosy. Wtf?!

For some reason I thought Blee was female too... Just what kind of subliminal messages are you putting in your posts to give so many of us this idea??

You're right! I remember hearing you had killer stats to go with your acceptances, but I didn't even think about gender. I think the fact that your name ends in an "ee" sound made me think female

this non-trad forum is WAY more fun than the august mcat one, which is my usual spot, at least since we are all waiting on and slowly setting up interviews, obsessively checking email etc..... but do you think as a 40+ acupuncturist i qualify as non-trad?

 Why, yes, in my expert opinion, I officially deem you to be a non-trad, and entitled to all the rights and duties thereof. Congratulations. 🙂

Heh, for a second I thought that "40+" was referring to your MCAT score!

Hi all,

Quick update: I had my UNC interview on Monday and I think it went pretty well. Meeting the med students and talking to the faculty really let me know that UNC is where I want to be. So hopefully I'll hear some good news from them soon 🙂

Interviews coming up: Howard, Emory, GWU, Wake, UPenn
