Interview Lodging Thread - Need a place to stay for the night?

towards the end of august, i'll have an apartment right on Pitt's campus. would definately offer my couch (or perhaps bed) and breakfast. wouldn't need a ride as i'll be about a 5 minute walk away. just pm me 🙂

As an after thought...SDNers will have to use their own discretion as to the trustworthiness of our users.

SDN offers no guarantees of safety, etc. Perhaps for those offering accomodations we could offer some sort of verification of status (ie, if you are a current med student or resident, sending us your school email). SDN Admins need to think about this or SDNers can "use at your own risk". We do have some unusual characters here.

I guess if it becomes "official" then we can use some verification process like we do with mentors.

I too think a verification process would be good idea. Since interview day is plenty to deal with in itself, it will just be reassuring to have confirmed lodgings and avoid any unexpected changes/delays.

Thank you to zipmedic for coming up with this, I'm sure this idea will be a great help to many of us during this cycle and for future applicants!! 🙂

While I can understand the desire for verification, after some coversations with SDN legal counsel, it was decided that we cannot fail in our duty to protect if we offer none. The verification process would necessarily be perfunctory - we could require those offering housing to give us their home address, school email and phone number - but that doesn't mean they aren't a psycho or wouldn't be lying to us. I've been in medicine long enough to know that we have our fair share of them.:laugh: We simply don't have the resources to do more than that and have decided that the project will be a "caveat emptor" one because if SDN becomes involved in a verification process and there were problems, we could open ourselves up to legal trouble.

If you interview at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX, then a student can usually accomdate you. I had several people stay with me during my time there. They have someone in charge of setting that up if you request it.

I am an intern/resident in Mississippi now and would be fine with being added to the list for Univ of MS in Jackson, MS. I know practically nothing about the medical school but have a spare bedroom and bathroom for anyone that cares to use it for a night. Obviously things have to be worked around my schedule but we can iron out those details. I am male with two small dogs and my g/f is here about 1-2 weeks out of the month. I am about 20 mins from the medical center and 30 mins from the airport.

Hi,

I'm about a 25 minute walk or 15 minute campus shuttle ride (or 8 minute bike ride, if you choose that route) from Stanford's med school. I have a couch (a short one, unfortunately) and sleeping pads, if you're interviewing here.

I live in Lubbock, less than 5 minutes away from Tech's campus (which isn't saying much in Lubbock). Anyway, I am currently reapplying. I interviewed there last year, have friends that go there and who got accepted there so maybe I could be of some help. So add me to the list. (Psycho murderers and rapists need not apply).

Just to let everyone know, if you interview at SLU (Saint Louis Uni) you have the option of staying with a current student for 1-2 nights (for $25/night that goes into the class fund, not free, but a lot cheaper than a hotel) and part of their deal is that they will make sure you get to your interview on time the next morning.

I get that this list is for free sleeping arrangements, but I just thought I'd throw that out there.

Please add me--I have a nice couch, a quiet roommate, and some kitty cats. I live in LA. I work at UCLA and commute an hour by a public bus every morning, so while it's a pain time-wise, I know public transport here and can help an interviewer get to UCLA. I am also good for USC interviews--I'm actually closer to USC and would even be willing to drive someone to/from either of these schools if it's a weekend.

UCI is probably a stretch--1.5 hours by car. But I'd still be good for a couch, just not transportation.

I love this thread and will (hopefully, if interviewed) definitely use it!

Anyone coming down to The Sunshine State, and wanting to stop by Orlando for a stopover at Disney, SeaWorld, Universal or hell-the Holy Land Experience🙄 before or after your interview can stay over my place in East Orlando near UCF if you need to save money for the outrageously priced tickets😀...might as well enjoy the trip, right...

I'm up for putting someone up for the night, but like the original poster said, if you're a whacko I'm flaming you until the day I die.

I have a futon or a bed, whichever you prefer. The bed has more privacy as its in a separate room. Futon is out in the living room.

FYI, guys....it's probably not very safe to post your contact info in public. First off, SDN has major traffic, and there are lot of trolls or just plain weirdos who might start harassing you with phone calls or even show up at your door. Second, for the e-mails, spam bots will collect your e-mails off of SDN and start spamming your accounts. If you want to post an e-mail address, separate it so that it doesn't appear as an e-mail address e.g. xyz @ studentdoctor dot net. And in my opinion, it is best to keep your address, phone #, and other sensitive info limited to PMs or e-mails with interested members.

Okay, the thing is that UCF is not going to have its first medical class until the Fall of 2009, so it may be a little premature.
