How do you turn down an acceptance?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do you write to them politely or you just simply not pay the deposit? Just curious. 😀 (serious question...)

You can do whatever you want.

If you want to show professionalism and good manners, and avoid having the admissions office disparage your mother's childrearing skills, then send a short polite note. You never know who you're going to run into again later.

"How do you talk to an angel?" does anyone remember that song from the 80's. Gotta love rock ballads

I forgot to email one school and let them know. The deposit deadline just slipped by. I felt bad about that, so all of the others I made a point to send a quick email to admissions as soon as I decided against attending there.

You should turn down the acceptance the same way you'd break up with someone: text message.

I e-mailed a quick message to the two schools I turned down. One school replied with a nice note back (DCOM), the other did not but I still assumed they got it.

"Dear X school of osteopathic medicine,

I am writing this to regretfully inform your program of my decision to not attend your institution for my osteopathic medical training. In my place, I would like Matt Oglesby to have my spot. He is superbly qualified and really good looking. I feel that if I don't defer my seat to him, he may get passed up and have to fly to the Caribbean to get his medical education. This would be a tragedy as he is really interested in learning OMT.

Please consider my offer,

I think it's best to at least send an e-mail. Just put this in the message: "Heck no I won't go! Heck no I won't go!"

How's that? 😉 But seriously I called DCOM and then e-mailed to confirm. I also got a really nice message back.

I think it's better to say "really really good looking"

That's actually what I wrote to DCOM only I said "In my place, I would like prionsRbad to have my spot." I tried to include Laura but they thought that was being too greedy. :meanie:

I sent a letter to Erie letting them know I wasn't attending. They mailed a confirmation letter back.

Dear X school of osteopathic medicine,

Thank you for offering me admission to X school of Osteopathic Medicine. Regrettably, I am not able to accept your offer to attend your school for my medical education. I have carefully evaluated institution along with many others, and you can rest assured that your school has received the utmost consideration. I have recieved invitations from many qualified schools, but unfortunately, I only have a limited number (1) of "me". Because of this, some very difficult decisions had to be made. I sincerely hope that you realize your dream of becomming someone's choice, and I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Prions, that was seriously disturbing. But, my girls were representing. I just had a totally awesome night. 😀 I went skating tonight with my son. I did the limbo and I won the number game and I talked to some of the girls and I am going to start skating again after my comps are over. Yeah. 👍 You can come out and skate with me.

You are awesome, Prions. My personal favorite is Kelly wants shoes. Betch.

Oh yeah, shoes is my second favorite! You know, Kelly and Margaret Chow are going on a stand up tour! I really want to go!

I wish I could come out and skate with you! You might have to hold my hand till I get warmed up, though. Then you can teach me some derby moves!

Definitely! But first you'd have to go through our special hazing ritual. If you can still walk after that, then I'd hold your hand! JK. Everything is totally eased into and you're made to feel totally comfortable, you would love it. 🙂

Same thing happened to me. I forgot to email one school and I've felt bad about that so I've been emailing since then.
