hi, for those who are interviewing next friday (jan 30) too,
did anyone receive the article yet? i thought we would received it a week from the interview day but i may be wrong. getting antzy. 🙂

You will get ripped off going to this school. They do not have regional college accreditation or pharmacy accreditation.

You will not be able to get federal loans, you will have to get private Sallie Mae loans. You will more than likely pay around 16% interest as that is the new high rate for 80% of their loans. http://studentlendinganalytics.type...ature-loan-to-climb-to-14625-apr-over-17.html

Their tuition is $40,000 per year. Private loans compound interest every year even while you are in school.
$40K + 16% interest = $46400 year 1
$46K + $40K +16% interest = $100224 year 2
$100K + $40K + 16% interest = $162659 year 3
$162K + $40K + 16% interest = $235085 year 4

$235,085 for your pharmd with Sallie Mae loans accruing interest through school, but it is not over yet.

Here is your repayment calculations from the Sallie Mae site.
Private Loan Repayment Balance$235,085 Monthly Payment Schedule
Signature Student LoansInitial Balance$235,085Remaining Terms$3,453
Payment Summary
Signature Student LoansTotal $ Payments$621,485Total Interest$386,400Total # of Payments180

So, $3500 a month for 15 years after you graduate. The grand total for your pharmd?? $621,485

Print this off and take it to your interview, ask them some questions about it, let me know what they say. Sallie Mae is a scam and this school was created to feed off the large applicant pool of CA, and to pump up some wallets.

CA Northstate hit a gold mine when they decided to open a pharmacy school in CA. There are always people out there who want to go to a pharm school regardless of the accreditation/cost, and CA Northstate fulfills this niche.

Thanks for posting this up. This is very interesting and definitely worth knowing for those interested in the school. I have to say, now I'm not so sure about Cal Northstate. I'll still look into it since it is in an area of California that I would be happy to go to for Pharm school, but I'll be sure to be cautious about such information as this.

Good job. You are not even including living cost in your calculation. As a pharmacist, your take home income after taxes is about 6,000 a mth so the majority of it will be used to pay your loans.

I hear a few students did not pass and are no longer with the school. Is this true?

If you have rich parents that can pay for your tuition, then go for it. If not, go to any school besides this one, assuming they have regional accreditation. This is a stand-alone pharmacy school, which is not associated with any other school system. They have zero accreditation so you can't get Federal loans. Sallie Mae as well as other private student loan companies are a huge scam. You will pay over $600,000 for your degree overall.

This school as well as sallie mae will make your life miserable for decades after you graduate. Go to ANY private school you want, just make sure they can give you Federal Stafford loans.

oh nevermind, i received it!

does anyone want to meet up before the big day? i'm going to stay at vagabond inn. let me know or pm me. 🙂

I totally agree with you; however, sometimes in this life we're all have to do what we have to do to succeed. I am pretty sure you agree with me.

I guess that all depends on how you define success. If I'm living with my parents for the next 20+ years devoting close to 100% of my salary to pay off 500k+ in debt (i.e. a cost of the house), pharmacist or not, I wouldn't say that I have achieved success in life.

I guess Northstate = FAIL for being a ripoff...

Thanks, JeremyE for posting that info!

I was already thinking of not submitting the application because of the private loan, but your calculations REALLY put it into perspective and now I'm definitely not submitting my supplemental!

I'm just sorry I spent so much time writing out the damn thing by hand.

If you got accepted to a pharmacy school outside of California, go to that one instead of this school. Northstate is the only stand alone and for profit pharmacy school in California. All the other California pharmacy schools belong to a university with a medical school. It is very competitive for clerkship sites in California. So they may need to ship you to a state that nobody wants to go for you to do your clerkship.

Me too!! I took so long writing the whole thing and kept having to start over because I made so many mistakes!!

Hey, who ever told you that CNCP has a difficult time finding clerkship in Sacrament or in CA for that matter. Students are now doing the IPPEs in the Sacramento area and beyond. And there are about 88 students doing the rotations now. I don't think they have any trouble finding rotation sites, right? Oh yea, check this out....http://www.news10.net/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=53806&catid=2

I am not talking about IPPEs, where you spend a few hours at CVS. I am talking about clerkship sites where you spend 6 wks, 40+ hrs a week at a ACPE approved site during your 4th year.

And your saying this based on what? Evidences that you've acquired from who? It's just an assumption right? The same types of assumption that says CNCP won't get the pre-candidate status to start school back in fall 2008? Let's just CNCP a chance eh? Thanks!

What I am saying is not rare for new pharmacy schools. They get the bottom of the barrel clerkship sites. Since CNCP is in California with pharmacy schools like UCSF, UOP, UCSD and USC, CNCP would have a very difficult time competing with these schools for clerkship sites. Do you think CNCP is better than these schools?

Add to that list Touro, Loma Linda and Western University... thats a lot of schools...

Provided this is accurate, (I'm too lazy to check the site myself on my dial-up internet) this school becomes even more grotesque. That's a lot to ask of students when your school's faculty is quitting, the remaining ones are mediocre, and your default method of communication with prospective students is an answering machine.

I got a Interview on 2/6. I'm ganna be driving up there. Anyone from LA area needs a ride or wanna road trip with me, let me know 🙂

Ok....Since we're all pursuing careers in pharmaceutical care and will be going to professional schools, I'm assuming were can all agree that tuition is an investment rather than an expense. However, is the information listed above true/accurate? Because I'm not willing to make that type of "investment." I have a Feb 6th interview coming up at California Northstate and am weary of things now. Any input/help/advice is appreciated. Thank you

Omg. I'm filling their supplemental application but this thread makes me stop 😱. Does anyone confirm about this calculation? I don't know if I can afford it.

I received an acceptance letter today 🙂! But the whole tuition and loan part has me thinking about how I would even pay for it!!! debating... to accept or not? Need to send in my $1000 deposit within 30 days too.

congrats. Think twice, three times before you make your decision.
This is what you will live with for the next 4 yrs or ... more 🙂

By the way, did you get the letter via email or snail mail?
thanks

I received it by snail mail. I was told by a friend that the school had sent the letters out the beginning of this week or the end of last week. So people should be seeing a large envelope soon.

Seriously. Why are you asking people to confirm it and not do it yourself? Are you just gonna take anyone's word for everything you do in life?

Just to get things straight. No one failed out last semester. I think CNCP has a bright future ahead. Everything is going as planned. A lot of current students were skeptical of their whole deal about team based learning but are now embracing this new learning method. If you are lucky enough to be accepted. You'll see for yourself...and the other thing, our professors are everything but mediocre. Since the class size is only about 90 students, all the professors really take the time to get to know you and make sure you are on track. They are all very brilliant. If they are not teaching they are doing their research at our own research lab. Once we have funding and all equipments purchased, students will get a chance to participate in those research.

The only advice I can give current/future applicants is to do the research yourself and not listening to every fart you hear in this forum. Most people have no idea what they are talking about. They are just pre-pharmacy student just like you.

Anyways, if you have time please go to this website and vote for your favorite video for the big premier at Outlook 2009 🙂

No offense but your words aren't that much more credible than someone who is "just a pre-pharmacy student" either because you've only presented to us the positives of the school. Everyone thinks their program is the best thing since slice bread ... what else is new? Even the students who attended HICP defended that school until they finally came to the realization that they just wasted a lot of money and one year of their life.

Anyway, I don't know why you felt compelled to defend the integrity of the professors at CNCP when people were wondering about the details of the private loan.

You sound like a used car salesman, are you affiliated with CNCP. Why did you dodge the excess tuition, private loan, high compounding interest, ****ed for life issue?

For those of you who had an interview can you please share how it went??
I am really curious on how they are going to conduct the team based learning assignment with the article they sent us.
Also, is the interview a group interview like Touro? From the website it seemed like it was done with multiple faculty members and pharmacy students but I couldn't figure out if there would be other applicants other than you. I also didn't know why it would take from 8am till 3pm.
And I am also assuming it is open file. Could someone verify this??
Thanks

No group interview. It does take from 8-3pm. It was open file...😀

So, what kind of interview questions did you guys get asked? Which ones were especially tough?

Jeremy E30 is on the money. Paying for this would be a financial disaster.

im not sure that you understand that we are all trying to compete to get into the school. so why would someone who has already been interviewed share any "tough interview questions" in order to give you an edge over them? so do what they did, go to your interview and answer the questions as best as you can.

They asked standard questions like why Northstate and they asked questions particular to your file...😉

yes pill crazy, i never seem to understand why someone would give others info so everyone else can have an advantage over them. Naive people should never be pharmacist =).

I have filled out the interview feedback. check it out.
most questions were pretty common. go to the interview forum or page; they have good questions you can study from. good luck!
pharmacists should be compassionate and caring; not shady 🙂

I personally think CNCP has a great program to offer. Although it is new, it is very different from the other schools; For example, their TBL (team-based learning) method. I hope you all will not let the finance crisis get in the way of your decision to attend this school. Maybe TBL is for you or not, it is still worth checking it out.

I'm declining my interview offer, so one more spot for those who are waiting. Good luck!

=) why are u guys hating. It's just something common that no one will say. But not like im the most selfish evil dude in this whole forum. So its cool. But good luck people, i think the previous post about $600,000 drove me away and now im regretting it.

are we supposed to turn in responses to those questions or just be ready to talk about them during the interview? i tried emailing them to ask but i haven't received a response yet!

How long does it take for the school to process your application and supplemental. My supplemental and application were mailed Jan 12..and I still havent heard anything nor have they cashed my check......

It will take a little while yet for them to get to you, but they do interviews till June I think. 😀

anyone please tell me when is the due date to submit supplemental application to Northstate? Thanks

I don't think anyone is hating on the program or the quality of the faculty members. JeremyE30 was just giving a PSA on the potential amount you'd owe for getting your PharmD at CNCP, which is something that no admissions committee members are going to give you during the interview since obviously if they did, no one would attend.

I'm just glad the information is out there because way too many applicants have tunnel vision when they should be looking at the whole picture. Do you really want to be in debt purgatory for the rest of your life? It doesn't make business sense to pay that much to get a PharmD when you can get it at a fraction of the price.

Absolutely! This school will cost a lot of money...
