First off, congratulations to all those who received interviews at ASDOH, sounds like a great institution with a great philosophy.

Now, my problem... They post national stats, which are less than the majority of dental schools around the nation. They are private, so many OOS students apply around nation. It seems that have rejected more students than any other school in the nation. Sorry for repeating nation so much. I had no idea that they harped on volunteer work and community leadership, and it seems that many others didn't either. I just feel like a lot of people apply here because their numbers fit and they feel like they can get an interview, when that is absolutely not the case. ASDOH is incredibly selective. I just realize now that I never stood a chance with them and woul have loved to save the money apply somewhere else. In conclusion, I think ASDOH should make it nationally known that their lower stats are not an indication of their inability to get students, but rather a choice to look beyond stats and into personal character and leadership. Maybe I am ignorant and did not do enough research, but I just know I am not alone here....

Not necessarily bitter about rejection, but bitter about wasting time and money on application.

Anybody feel the same or different??

this is a great analysis, and i think many people (like myself who haven't applied) will appreciate seeing this.
I am sorry it didn't work out, you got good stats, no worries, best of luck

It is nationally known that ASDOH is school committed to community service. And if you didn't know that you should have gone to their website and researched the school or even performed a search on SDN prior to submitting an application.

Ok first, I am not bashing your school. I applied there for a reason... And I did read through the website pretty thoroughly before I applied and besides annual community clinics like operation smile and others, I didn't see anything that suggested ASDOH emphasizes community leadership more than other schools. Every school's website says they participate in outreach programs and focus on community wellness. It would be unethical not to. As for SDN, no I did not check it, and maybe I should have. So consider this an awareness thread for applicants considering ASDOH

i was really disappointed after getting rejected from asdoh considering how much they emphasize community service along and how much pride i have in the community service/leadership i do. granted, my community service hours aren't healthcare related, but i'm still very involved being a premier level youth soccer coach-which is all volunteer. my stats aren't great (3.4 18 DAT) so i was really hoping for an interview at asdoh. i feel for the frustrated applicants out there..

It's a good thing not everyone being rejected feels that they were mislead about one thing or another, otherwise the deluge of additional posts could easily number in the 72K.

I was a little frustrated and surprised but oh well. I had an interview with them last year. All I did was improve my application and It came as a quick rejection this time around. It's a great school but your not missing out if you don't get in. There are plenty of great schools.

Yeah, it sucks. There are so many things in the entire app process that's really not possible to understand and fails logic. You can't guarantee everything is ethical either.

But think that its just 1 school. Think down the road when you are in d-school, would you give it a second thought to this?

Be strong , if you're meant to be dentist you'll get in another great school.

Great, just got my rejection letter from ASDOH. Kinda surprised and frustrated as well, ahh w/e.

72K + 1 more since you contributed to the thread

a little bitter??

1. They care about volunteer stuff, most schools do
2. Your stats are not that impressive to be surprised by the rejection

I think one aspect of the "misleading" numbers is that they are a newer school, so the numbers have still been on the lower end. However, these lower numbers (in addition to their private school status) attracts MANY applicants, thus allowing them to be much more particular and most likely increase their stats in regards to DAT/GPA.

That's aside from the volunteer emphasis or whatever they choose their interviewees on as everyone else has discussed. I have interviews at 7 out of the 9 schools I applied to, and what I believe to be a lot of volunteer hours/positions, and I was rejected in Sept.

Beats me 🙄

Regardless of stats, rejection can be upsetting. "Your stats are not that impressive to be [suprised] by the rejection" would be a better statement.

Haha, just saw you edited it. Now I agree...

Their mission statement implies leadership and community service. 2/4

"Leadership Team : Community-based Education Model : Accreditation : Identified Need"

Notice the order.

Then again, I only knew they severely emphasized community service/leadership because of SDN.

Yea, now that I have looked, I have found some good info on SDN. It's my own fault, it just seems like a lot of other people have been suprised by immediate rejection as well.

I love firing people up on SDN, its half the reason I started this 😀.

This was definitely a rant and my only one 😀 Don't spite me Doc, I like your posts. My reason for posting this; besides stirring the pot; is I am interested in ASDOH's immediate rejection of so many applicants. But I guess its better than making us wait to be rejected.

With 3K applicants they are probably concerned about overwhelming the usps not to mention the poor mail carriers.
