This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone make the contribution yet?

I already did 👍

He is a personal friend of mine. I hope everyone on this forum is donating to his (our!) cause. Want someone to put a stop to the CRNA infringement? Donate to Dr. Harris senate campaign: he is an anesthesiologist who will fight for our cause!

I donated to his campaign last time around and will again.

He is (or was?) a Navy reservist too so I'm clinging to a shred of hope that he may help unscrew some of the things wrong with military medicine. Can't say I agree with every plank in his platform but I'd happily swallow those in return for an anesthesiologist in Congress.

Hi IN2

Quick q...I believe he was over at Hopkins right? As a friend of his, do you know or can you shed some light on what his political stances are on certain key issues that would effect us. Issues like CRNAs, paraprofessionals,CMS, etc? Also what are his views on the HealthCare Bill.

I'll actually be heading to a Pain Conference soon and apparently he will be there, but I'd like to know get a few bullet points about him ahead of time.

Thanks👍

He's 125% on our side. The only reason more fellow attendings don't fully support him is his social conservatism.

BTW he taught me how to do a prone spinal. See Andy Harris for his specific views.

Hi bro': obviously lots of questions and info that can be plucked away from his website. I will tell you that he will fight for our cause: specifically, scope of practice issues with regards to paraprofessionals would be a huge thing in his endeavor to help our specialty. He fully realizes the issues that our specialty specifically faces with the new administration in power/CMS issues. I have personally worked in the same institution as Andy and have personally taken over some of his cases--all I can say are positive things from a personal and a professional level. One of his friends whom I have met and got to know is the Georgia congressman Tom Price (an orthopedic physician). In case you were not watching, congressman Tom Price was one of the instrumental leaders who offered an alternate, feasible plan to the HealthCare bill. Unfortunately congressman Price was viewed as a thorn by the Administration and, as the Democrats had wished all along, they crammed the Healthcare bill down our and the public's throats.... Since you are going to the pain meeting, walk up to Andy Harris and introduce yourself and inform him of your views. Tell him that you support him! He is a guy who can tremendeously help our specialty, I hope he wins this time around!

This is HUGE GUYS!!!

I am so glad to know that you are personal friends, maybe you can ask him to start posting on SDN!

Granted we may not all agree with some of his political views, but when an opportunity like Dr. Harris comes along who will fight for us, then we need to rally behind him!! Hope he wins!

I too know Andy Harris from my days as a resident at Hopkins. He is a great clinician and teacher. He is definitely on our side with physician/anesthesiologist issues. While I disagree with many of his conservative social views, I respect him for what he believes are principled positions.

My donation is in.

However, I wonder if he will change his views on drilling now that BP has destroyed the Gulf of Mexico.

I also doubt that he would come to SDN. This site, while amusing to many of us, is just too juvenile for someone like him.

Weird, i was gonna post askin if this guy's campaign was worth contributing to 'cause i've been receiving the mailings requesting donations. Given the comments so far, I'm in...

Perhaps he can join the Private Forum? I think his input into either the general forum or the private forum would muster up a lot of support. I'm sure he would be smart about avoiding the 'juvenile' threads. It could work in his favor....

thanks IN2B and gsspasser....I'll take your word for it...writing a check as we speak.

bump

I met and listened to Dr. Harris at the Georgia Society of Anesthesiologists Annual Meeting last week. This is DEFINITELY a guy you would like to see in Congress. See the links above to contribute to his campaign.

I agree, get as many doc's as you can into Washington.

Despite the replies I got in the other thread this is the answer. The pessimistic view of "Any docs who get there will just conform and not really support us" is ludicrous. We need a voice. Right now Washington is 85-90% lawyers...think they have our best interest in mind?

For a better future for all of us and our patients. Another $250 donated.👍

I'm in dermatology and I just donated $250. Physicians need to stick together and present a joint front on political matters. Too often specialties are fragmented and fight but we all need to elect physicians, push back midlevel encroachment and fight for our patients.

I can't thumbs up this post enough....but I'll try!👍👍👍👍👍👍

I agree. If everyone had this sort of thought. Lawyers and dentists are always able to stick together. We should attempt to do the same. Not be at each others throats when it comes to political issues.

Looks like he is up double digits in the latest polls. Hopefully that holds up and we can get another doctor representing us in congress.
