SORRY PEOPLE IT TOOK SO LONG!!! But I was just unwinding for a couple of days, the test was so freaking hard!!! I have headaches till now, 8 hours is too long!!! Specially if you think about coming back for more the next day!
I was surprised that there was just 5 of us taking the test here in Chicago when I took the NBDE I we were more than a hundred I guess is because the computer based that there's less people taking the paper based.
ABOUT THE TEST NOW!

Sorry I don’t want this thread to be long and boring 😴 so I'm gonna post it now and continue in a moment... 😉

Wow! Thank you Aspita!

Very nice of you to post here for all of us!

I'm sure you'll get a good score. Good luck!

Also the book “DENTAL HYGIENE NATIONAL BOARD REVIEW” was very helpful it doesn’t have all the subjects but it helps a lot it has ‘ some mnemonics that help a lot. Is not worth it to buy it but if you have a friend that is a dental hygienist borrow some of her material because their test is very similar to ours and somehow they explain everything so nicely to them!! (radiology, basic pharmacology, behavioral, some basic pathology, everything aout flourides, statistics). It may look very simple material for some but it did help me. 🙂

Thanks Aspita. Maybe this nice thread will inspire me to start studying. 🙂

Aspita, btw did you tried those CD's with unoffical unreleased questions? I don't know whether to get them or not. School gave me 1993 exam, but that's it. Do you think is worth buying those CD's or papers?

I'll appreciate the answer from anyone who took part 2 and used those resources. Thanks. :luck:

thank you for posting the links.it is very nice of you to help out.

Well I started in Dec, I studied just a couple hours a day and all the weekends till the last month then I studied around 4 hours a day and all day on weekends (including Fridays) and that's because I work full time and I couldn't take days off I think the timing for this test is different than NBDE I which u need at least 6 months or 4 months full time. Well that’s just my opinion. But I think studying 4 months for 4 or 5 hours everyday should be fine. Again, just my opinion.
Now something that I recommend is to check all the threads that are at the beginning (sticky). They’re very helpful cause take u to the threads that take about the NBDE II and recommend u what to study. I will post this ones that were originally recommended by MEGGS (thank u meggs , very informative)

You can buy it in most bookstores and at Amazon.com where you might get cheaper used ones. Also try e-bay.

Good luck with exam,

yes i have found sucess buying from Amazon.com
e-bay is much harder because you need to wait usually to see if you were the best bidder.

I am also looking for someone close to the Chicagoland area who would like to be study parnters with me. I need all the help I can get.
This site has already been very useful to me with my studies, many thanks to everyone.

If you asking me about Dental Hygienists Review Book, I have absolutely no clue. I never thought I need to consult them and the reason I say it because we have plenty of resources and material to study for NBDE.

Thanks,

Hi Chitz! I wasn't recommending to buy the book just if u happen to have a friend who is a RDH ask her the material, but since ur asking, the one that I had is by "Dental Hygiene Seminars, INc" the website is www.dhseminars.com the phone number 888 8505220. But again concentrate in what u have don't get obsessed with this book. Th edental decks and the realesed exams are the main resource for u to study and also the web sites specially the pathology ones. Best luck!!! 👍

hi aspita.. thanks a lot for helping me. I have a question to ask.... u mean decks and papers are enough?? Is it important to go in detail with each subject by refering texts.can u help me in telling which topics which we should know perfectly.is it good to start with papers im done with decks or should i do decks couple of times and then start with papers plz let me know. im kinda of confused.reply soon

Hi, Meggs!

I took the paper based exam last March 28 and 29.

Anyway, I got the unreleased questions because I figured they would be of some help. I wanted to see the trend in the way ADA constructs questions, etc. Some of the questions in the unreleased exams were repeated in the paper-based test I took. If you have the money, I suggest that you buy the The exam was tough, generally. I agree with Aspita. 8hours was a long time, and coming back the next day was awful.

I didn't have a lot of money to spend on review materials, and I only had less than two months to prepare for the exams, but I made sure to get copies of the unreleased exams. In fact, I bought the copies less than 3 weeks before my paper based exam. I think the money I used on them bought me some peace of mind. I was reading them days before taking NDBE2 (so they don't take a long time to read/go over -- give yourself a few days with them and you're good to go), and I think they helped assess my preparedness to sit for the actual exam. Anyway, if you don't mind the expense, I suggest you try to get a copy of the unreleased exams.

Hope this helps. Good luck, and feel free to post or PM me questions. That goes for everyone taking NDBE2 as well. 🙂

Hi, Chitz!

Decks is good for basic information. It's a good source for preparing for NDBE, so I suggest going over the cards. You can never go wrong with the basic information. 🙂

I tried to read Decks twice, then went on to the question papers. The released ADA exams are a good bet, since they have correct answers. The unreleased exams have no correct answers, but in the copy that I got, some answers were marked already.

There are no guarantees that they will repeat the questions in the future, but going over the released and unreleased exams helped me see what sort of questions were ADA asking.

I'm not sure about Kaplan, I didn't get Kaplan because from some threads here at SDN, a lot of people were saying that Kaplan's Part 2 materials were not very detailed. I can't speak for that, since I didn't read Kaplan at all, but you can review the old posts, and maybe those will help.

I also tried to read Lippincott's for Pharmacology, but just bits and pieces of the book, to supplement what I read from Decks. I don't think I could've read the entire Lippincott's without going crazy. As I said, I only had about 2 months to study.

If you want to explore other references, feel free. I mean, the extra knowledge will always help, right?

Good luck, and just PM me if you have more questions.

I have to tell Chitz from my experience there isn't to many repeated questions as in part I but the released exams will guide u in what to study do not try to memorize go and look for the explanation of the answers and that will be a good guide to study.
as for the topics it is always a good question and it was discussed in others theads so I don’t want to be repetitive. Look to the links to other threads that I gave before this is discussed more extensively there, if they don’t redirect you plz just type them up, this is a good one:

Hi Chitz,

I found two books at my local library today. They were in the "medicine" section. One is by Saunders and other by Mosby ( Publishers, I think). I think the name is " National Board Review for Dental Hygiene". You can ask the librarian to look up for word "Dental Hygiene" and see what comes up.

I flipped through the Pharmac pages and seemed good.

I help this helps you and others. 🙂

I also would like the unreleased papers, so if u find someone who has them, I would be very grateful if you shared them with me. Anyone have suggestions where I could buy them?

You all have been so helpful with the links you posted. I am not sure where you got them all from, but they seem more precious than gold to me !

Thanks and take care.
