So I've been exploring the other opportunities outside of the traditional retail/hospital pharmacy, and was wondering if anyone had ever gone to law school or had went on to get their MBA after pharmacy school?

I know a little bit about the jobs you can get with them (e.g. patent work for a pharmaceutical company, working as a pharmacist manager), but what other jobs could you do with a combination of those degrees? Also, does anyone have any idea on the job outlook/starting salary for those kind of positions are?

Thanks.

It depends..but the salary are slightly higher for ppl with PharmD/MBA or PharmD/JD degree...

good luck

Josh, are you planning to do the joint pharmD/mba program? I'm thinking about it, but I don't have much non-pharmacy work experience, so I don't know how that mba education is going to work.

go into IT....there are very, very few pharmacists specialized in that area.

Looked into patent law and talked to quite a few lawyers working in the pharmaceutical patent industry. To sum it up, you will come out making only slightly more working at a firm then you would being a pharmd working retail. Potential to move up is a lot higher then working retail, but this may never happen. Reading papers 60hours a week may not be worth the hassle, not to mention 3 years law school ($100k investment).

I would look into a PharmD/MBA. It probably opens more doors than any of the pharmd dual programs. The CEO of the hospital I volunteered at had both. He moved on to become the CEO of a major healthcare system in Philadelphia (and making the big bucks). I plan on following his footsteps and eventually going into administration.

How about PharmD/MPH degree? Has anyone looked into that? I don't know if it's worth the money and time. Exactly how much more do you get paid with joint degrees??

There are no "exact" numbers when it comes to joint degrees. It all depends on the individual how far you can go with the degrees. Some people will flounder and go no farther than they would have gone with just one of the degrees while a few will be CEOs of companies.
You have to decide what your goals are and see if that degree is going to help you get there or is it just going to put you further in debt.

There is no PharmD + JD = xxx amount of money. If you kick *** at what you do and network, you will go far.
