hey, i was planning on finishing all my pre- reqs at a community college, and i wasnt going to get a bachelors either, is that bad? what are my chances of getting in to a pharmacy school? my gpa isnt that bad but its not perfect either so far 3.5...🙁

u have exactly the same plan as I do ^^
I took and still taking 4 more prereqs at CC and plan not to get a Bachelor degree.
I don't have any pharmacy experience here <__<
Lack of extracurricular activities as well >_<

I'm not sure about getting accepted (if I do, I'll confirm if this plan/our plan is fine to do), but I think u might get called for interview. So far, I've received only one interview invitation from 4 schools I applied. ^^;;;;;;

I have similar GPA as u do (3.85). =)

hey thank you soo much...it feeels great not to be the only one!!!....i dont have any experience either i'm trying to get a job at the pharmacy tho....hey what school did u get an interview to....

yaaay ^___^v
wow, u're lucky since u can get a job at the pharmacy whereas i can't bcoz they ask for SSN and ask for pharm tech certificate >_<;;;
F-1 visa students can't take pharm tech, and they can't use their SS to work off-campus =(
Only work permit (WP) allows them to work off-campus. however, most pharmacies prefer SS over WP T__T, so I end up with no pharm exp *sobs*

Western ^^

Most of my prereqs are from CC's but I'm getting my BS. I also have no pharm experience, though I've taken a few pharm tech classes (at CC). No recent (last two years) extracurriculars since I've been too busy at school/work. I've gotten interviews at Oregon State and Western, but haven't heard back from USC or LLU yet. GPA 3.48/3.59

From what I've researched, if you can prove to the AdCom that you can make the grades in a 4 year program, then you can take some CC classes. For example, if you took Orgo 1 and got a B+/A, and you took orgo 2 and got an A, it woulnd't effect your app. However, if you got a B+/A in orgo 1 at a 4 year college, then got a C in orgo 2 at CC, then that looks BAD!

that sucks cause i got a C in first sem of general chem at a CC..and my GPA blows..but im currently tryin to pick it up (in second sem of gen chem)
i currently go to a CC and also like others here..
plan to transfer straight from there after i finish my pre-reqs
i am current compiling curriculars and will have some good letters of rec. as well but i dont see why everyone on this forum looks down on CC's that much..
most of my science teachers have taught at USC, UCLA, etc
..
but im glad to see that some people here have gotten interviews with just CC good for u guys!

I don't think it should matter. When I interviewed at Mercer, more than half of the group I interviewed with was doing all the pre-pharm work at a community college. I think as long as you have the requirements and you prove that you know your stuff, it shouldn't matter.

I don't think that taking your Pre-reqs at a CC is looked down upon. However, depending on where you want to go to for Pharm school you might want to consider getting a bachelor's! I know places like Nevada or Albany are more concerned about the applicant's GPA rather than a degree. I am pretty sure schools such as UCSF, UCSD, and USC are big on the whole degree thing! They want to know that you can handle the university course load (which I know is sometimes easier than the classes we take in the CCs). They also like very well rounded applicants!

I have a bachelor's from USC in Psychology...completed most of my pre reqs at a CC. However, I maintained a really high GPA at both USC and CCs and so far have/had interviews at my three top choices!

1. UCSF
2. USC
3. UOP

Personally, I suggest getting a degree because it's also a good back-up! But, I am sure if you keep you GPA above a 3.6 (and have lots of volunteer work, ECs) at a CC you will def. get in somewhere! Best of luck to you and don't be discouraged... some of the science classes at CCs are exteremly competitive and just as hard as those in four yr!!
