In class: whatever you want. Some girls dress like they're going drinking after class.
In pre-clin and in clin: Varies according to what floor you are on. The 4th and 5th floors are the most strict to try to "keep up" the professional look of the clinic after their renovations. 3rd floor will most likely follow suit in September 2007. In general: business attire or scrubs. Scrubs with patterns seem to be a no no. It's not officially in the dress code, but people with patterned scrubs have been told to not wear them to clinic anymore. Closed-toe shoes, no mules or crocs. Comfortable shoes are preferred - you're chasing faculty a lot in clinic. If you wear sneakers they're supposed to have black soles - except on 5th floor clinics: you'll get in trouble for wearing any sneakers. Nothing made of denim (some GPD's let this one slide). No bare legs - no shorts, no skirts above the knee, stockings for females. If you're a guy wearing a button up shirt you have to wear a tie on in clinic. No t-shirts - wear shirts have to have a collar. You can wear a hat in clinic, it is not specifically banned in the dress code, however if it is not for religious purposes, it is frowned upon as unprofessional. PLEASE wear clothes under your lab coat! We finally got rid of the two fat men who used to walk around topless under their coats. I don't care how hot it is in clinic, no one wants to see a beer belly and nipples under someone's lab coat. And keep extra pens with you and in your locker they tend to grow legs.
In oral surgery: clean scrubs and lab coat only.
Faculty practice: dress attire only. Bring your name tag, goggles, patient goggles. They provide the lab coats.
1A: dress attire only and take your stethescope, blood pressure cuff, goggles, PDA w/ epocrates, clean lab coat.
Pedo: dress attire or scrubs. They like to put stickers on you.
Pedo outreach: dress attire.
