Has anyone received an interview invite from Harvard recently (as in, within the past two weeks)....or are they pretty much done? Email I received from Harvard a long time ago said invites would end by 3rd week of January, but through the grapevine I've heard this might not be true. Any factual help is appreciated.

thanks

i received an interview invite on January 16th. I set it up for February 8th, which according to the email was the final interview date for the season. if you have any more questions, lemme know.

Yeah, I heard and scheduled the same dates as Pancho. Interviews may still be going out, but they are down to just a couple of interview dates (based on the email). Best of luck whynot.

nice dude, lookin at your acceptances, UT southwestern acceptance is awesome, so cheap and such a great school

thanks everyone. Good luck on your interviews Pancho Villa & eurozo.

Heard on Monday for New Pathway. Only had slots on the 12th and 13th.

The semi-functional status page now reads:

"The 2007 application cycle is closed. Admission decision letters will be mailed by the second week of March 2007. Thank you for your interest in Harvard Medical School."

A friend of mine just got called yesterday for a HST interview. She called the admissions office and got her New Pathway interview scheduled a day before.
That was pretty last minute, but maybe they still got some of those?

wow. nice. rest of us possibly have monday or tuesday remaining for an invite, but i guess it may be more safe to assume that it just might be done with harvard. *poop* oh well. it IS harvard 😀

So has anyone actually called the admissions office and asked if they are absolutely done with interviews? I just need some closure on this so I can cross it off my list!

I got an invite a couple weeks ago for the 12th. They've also added a couple more dates in February (like 22nd/23rd), but that's it.

Anyone think there's any significance to them asking me to move my interview? Some CA kid claimed to only be able to make the day I had scheduled my interview. I'm a little dubious about it.

yes, there are interviews end of feb and beginning of march.....

i have one feb 23, and i know ppl at my school who are interviewing first week of march.

i dont know if youre asking if moving your interview will affect your acceptance, or whether its possible to move your interview...

but i actually moved my interview (almost moved it twice actually--but then stuck with the second option they gave me) so they are able to accommodate you--though when i did this (a few weeks ago) i think there were limited dates left--which made it a little more complicated...

anyone know why they are still having interviews very late feb/ early march if decisions go out mid-march?

on last year's forum, ppl said that sub-committees make their decisions mid-feb. and committees meet and make all final decisions first week of march... so does that mean if we are interviewing this late it is no chance? does interviewing early mean more likely to get accepted or does it not matter? anyone know?

I got an interview invite on Feb 4 for New Pathway to interview on March 4. When I interviewed for HST on Feb 5, they said that is the last group of interviews they are doing for HST, but I am not sure when New Pathway interviewing is done.

Congrats on those interviews, dg!

I thought NP interview invites stopped going out 1/28?

Thanks. I thought they were done sending out interview invites also, but sometimes this process has good surprises.

I too got an interview invite to NP on 2/4, and am interviewing March 3. :luck: everyone!

Does anyone know when Harvard is supposed to send out final decisions? I know its in March. But what date?

I think it's consistently been mid-March. My friend was in the cycle two years ago and the first rejections were received March 11, acceptances March 15.

I should have my SDN name include some form of "dancer" as it seems to be lucky!

Congrats stardancyr!

I'm thinking it may be pushed back with people interviewing into the first week of march. Although I would guess a good chunk of the class is unofficially formed.

It's official: my son interviewed today, and loves H and the city. Now comes the hard part -- the waiting.

Tell me about it! I have been dreaming about the day...wondering if it will be a large brown envelope or a small one...hmmmmm.

I can only dream for now!

I concur. Do they normally interview into the first week of March? If not, I wonder why they extended their interview season. Very interesting!

I am curious to know how the interviews on February 8th went for those of you who interviewed. My son had a great time, and came away from the day really liking what he saw and heard. What was your impression?

Not to be rude... but I am curious: why don't you let your son do the talking here?

Well, actually it is rude. But since my son really does not care much about forums and boards, and just does his own thing, he would not even come and ask the question.

I, on the other hand, am curious and like to learn, so I join and ask questions. If that offends you, perhaps you should examine why.

Not to throw myself into a flame war here, but I think nutrition asked a valid question. I mean, it's great you're so involved in your son's life, but it just always seems odd to me when parents come on here and talk about their kids' experiences. I just don't see the relevancy of your comments to anything, since you didn't actually interview. Who knows what your son really thought!

For instance, I hated Harvard when I interviewed, but I told my parents I loved it. It would crush them to think that I'd even consider going to medical school somewhere other than the almighty Harvard...and if I get in, well, I probably won't even tell them. I'm just saying that the more pressure you put on your kids regarding every detail of their application progress, the less likely they are to tell you the truth.

It's kind of like...well, my dad is retiring this week after a 45-year career, and I'd feel weird going on a message board for retirees. How could my opinion count for anything at all?

I'm not offended by your posts, BoneDoctorDaddy, and as I said, I think it's fantastic that you're so supportive of your son. And of course you have a right to post just as much as anyone else...it probably just makes a few people (like myself and nutrition) wonder why you're here and your son is not.

I also mirror Letitgo's sentiments. Certainly it is very nice of you to be so supportive to your son, and also to want to learn more through SDN (after all, that's the whole point of this website), it seems that you are getting unnecessarily offended and attacking members.

Well, my intent was not to attack, he stated his opinion, and I stated mine -- I did feel his approach was rude. It is like when someone begins a monologue "With all due respect, ....." you know what is coming next is going to be less than respectful.

I am fortunate in that I have the type of relationship with all of my kids that they can tell me the truth -- anytime, about anything. I get more "drunk calls" then any parent I know. In fact, I don't know any that do. But, he does not do what I want: I am just one voice that he respects. He takes input from me, his mother, his adviser, and his peers, and then he makes his own decision. That was how he selected his college. So, I come here so that I can have an informed opinion.

Of course I would like Harvard to choose him. Let's face it, most parents would. But trust me, like he did with college, he will base his decision (assuming he has as many choices as he would like) on criteria that has more to do with his personal goals and comfort level, rather than a notion of prestige. So, what most interested about his experience was his excitement over he people he met, and I just wondered how others that interviewed last week felt about their experience. I am still not sure why that seems strange to some, but so be it.

I see your point. Sorry I came off as rude earlier.

I too interviewed at Harvard. And loved it!

To get back on topic, I'll offer up that my visit to Harvard left a very poor impression on me regarding the students there. My interviewers were both phenomenal, but the students literally mostly ignored the applicants that day. I was sitting in the atrium that most of the students hang out at, with a bunch of other applicants (and of course we stood out in our attire), but not a single student passing by stopped to say hi, to ask about us, to see if we had any questions. Now I'm not saying this is their obligation, but at nearly every other school I've been at, students appeared from right and left to chat with applicants, and it has always made me feel welcomed and given me a flavor of what the students are like. The only interaction we had with the Harvard students on our interview day was with a couple of students that were assigned to have lunch with us and give us a tour. Honestly, the way that all the other students ignored us really turned me off from the school. The dean of admissions started off the day with a speech about how part of the goal of the day was to show us that the stereotypes about Harvard students being stuck up was untrue. They didn't do a good job...

edit: applies to NP interview day only

You actually saw the dean? Lucky...

I completely agree with the sentiment you described. I was least impressed with my Harvard interview. The tour was short (almost non-existent) and lunch started 45 min. late because the students were late. Granted, I think they had exams that day, but still, I was hoping for so much more. It was HARVARD after all. The facilities were pretty darn nice though. But I guess Harvard is just another pretty face.

Oh well, at least it won't sting as much when the rejection letter comes!

Thank you all, and especially you nutrition. Posts on web-boards are not always the best way to express nuances of language and intent, and I too apologize for getting snarky in response.

I believe my son's group got stood up for lunch due to a quiz, but that did not seem to put him off.

Anyway, good luck to you all, and I hope Harvard becomes just one of your choices.

Guess they're still giving out invites. Got one today for an interview on 2/28. Complete in mid-december.

Congrats, hope. Good luck at your interview.

Perhaps people have canceled interviews and now there are more interview slots? I don't know who would cancel a Harvard interview though. Either way, congrats on the invite!

I have a question for the people who got the harvard invites. What is the lowest GPA from a state school that HMS would consider? What I mean to ask is that, do they have some type of formula or something?

Hahaha, are you at least partly kidding? Those of us who have received invites have no idea if there is a formula, the only people who could answer that are people at Harvard's admissions.

If not, your answer depends on a lot of things: how low is the GPA? Do you count as URM/disadvantaged (these apparently are getting the same weight in future application years)? Exactly which public school did you attend (berkeley, umich, ut-austin, etc. will help)? Have you participated in any outstanding extracurriculars (Olympic athlete, military service)? Perhaps most importantly, what did you score on the MCAT?

That said, I imagine a cauc/asian male with good extracurriculars and a solid MCAT score will see their chance of receiving an interview drop off precipitously at around 3.2 or so.

That is flippin hilarious. Have you guys seen their website? When I saw: "What it means to be a HARVARD doctor..."
I suffered through an unfortunate episode of puking in my mouth a little while laughing.

Not that its a big deal or anything, but I really think that number is higher. 3.4-3.5 probably.

do all the new pathway interviews go out through email?

Im going to one of the UT's. MY GPA is not really that low around the 3.9s, but would they discriminate because of the fact that I go to a state school. Most of harvard applicatants, and the entering class is probably made up of students from ivy undergrad schools.
