Anyone out there get an interview invite from NYCOM?
Or any word from them for that matter...it's one of my top choices of the ten osteopathic schools I applied to, but I haven't heard anything from them.
Anyone know anything? TIA

I haven't heard anything either. I'm pretty sure we are not alone.

I interviewed at NYCOM last cycle, and if it is anything like last year, interview invites didnt come until November.

Have you received a secondary from them? I haven't.

as far as I know, and their website mentions this also, they have you fill out a secondary when you get there for your interview. they don't send one in the mail. not sure how detailed it is.

So do we send them anything other than our AACOMAS primary app? I assume they want a LOR or two, but I can find absolutely NOTHING about this at their website.

It's under "How to Apply":
Preprofessional evaluation forms should be completed and sent directly to the college by the applicant's college preprofessional committee. Applicants may substitute evaluations from no less than three faculty members, two of whom teach sciences, if their college lacks a preprofessional committee
A personal evaluation by an osteopathic physician not related to the applicant, although not required, is strongly recommended.
Please note that NYCOM does not mail supplemental applications.

At the time of interview applicants are required to complete a Supplemental Application form and to remit the required $60 NON-REFUNDABLE supplemental application fee.

From what I understand from previous years, they send you the secondary they send you the invite for the interview. You must complete it and turn it in on your interview day. And I would suggest finishing it before you get there, b/c some people from last year's cycle were actually filling them out right before their interviews.

Hi, I copied the following right from NYCOM's website. It was under Admissions Section:

Supplementary Materials:

Don't send it in until you get your interview notification, but have them ready.

My school's health committee insisted on sending my letters out to all the schools that I applied to at once when I got my first secondary, so NYCOM has had my letters for some time. So far it hasn't been a problem.

1) Your secondary from NYCOM will probably not come until November.

2) You will be responsible for setting your OWN interview date.

3) You would behoove yourself to fill out the secondary AFTER you set an interview date, but BEFORE you get to the interview.

4) Your letters need to be in before they can make a decision. That means: you can interview, and 3 weeks later the letters can be there, but that's a few weeks' worth of acceptances already handed out.

5) Overall, the "Golden Rules of Applying to Medical School" apply to NYCOM

a) You will hurry to get things in, and then you will wait (and wait..)
b) The faster you get things in, the less you have to focus, the more you can research/dream up reasons why you want to attend, and the more antsy you can get while following a)

Good luck to all who are applying! :luck:

I'm definitely going to try being a "tour guide" for those of you 2009 NYCOM-aspirants! 😀
