i'm still bitter about your fake "penn decisions are out" thread...

but - here's the real question: do schools really change that much from year to year?

answer: no

therefore rankings are ****... that said - way to go UCLA!

What I think is ironic is that we look at these rankings so that we can go to good schools and get good jobs... but the people who will give us jobs aren't looking at the USNews rankings of the schools we went to.

It turns out that we are the only consumers of this ranking system... The rankings get students to covet certain schools, which is to that schools benefit, but not necessarily to the students benefit.

This ranking business boggles my mind... I'm not even convinced that there is an appreciable difference in career outcomes when you compare graduates of any two MSTPs, but I was so ready to go to Harvard if I was accepted, even though my wife didn't have a position in Boston, the money was awful, and I didn't even like Boston to begin with... Well I guess it's a good thing I didn't get in there (as a single tear streams down my cheek...)

I second j-weezy - kudos UCLA! That is quite a move in one year!
