I don't condone cheating any where unless she's really hot. But back to my question, a classmate brother said he cheated his way through med school and I was wondering whether to take that literally? Is there cheating or widespread cheating in Med school? I would hate to be treated by one of these future docs.

I know of one girl who cheated her way through college by having several previously administered exams from all of her profs (btw, she still couldn't get As) and she thinks she's going to get into medical school. This person is the only person I know of that would have to cheat her way through, but again, she'll never get in. To answer your question, I bet it happens at one point or another, but they sure as hell won't be able to cheat their way past boards so I don't think you'll have to worry about this.

People cheating above the high school level makes me want to kick a kitten. Here's my question ... Where the F*CK does it end??? Cheat through med school?? Are you going to bs your way through residency??? Okay, maybe?? What the hell are you going to do one day when someone codes on your in the ER??? Cheat off the doc giving epi to the dying guy next to you??? It's seriously disgusting. I've known so many people who have cheated their way into good undergrad grades. To be honest, it's worked for most of them. Whatever, don't stress ... I don't want to say 'karma is a bitch,' but things have a way of working themselves out in the end.

whether or not that should be considered cheating is debatable. If professors really care about future students using old exams then he/she shouldnt allow the students to keep them. Old exams are always going to circulate and studentsn are always going to have them. Its just another study tool. Unless the girl went to a school where it was strictly forbidden to use old tests and she went through a heap of trouble and sneakily stole them from somewhere or something....

edit: the current med students at the school ill be attending have talked about how old exams circulate throughout the class. Its not considered cheating. Everyone knows and they are available to everyone. You still need to study your ass off, and the old tests are used as a tool to help you test your knowledge for the upcoming exam.

Thank goodness that the MCAT is the great equalizer. Can't imagine how one would cheat through that? You either know it or you don't. No professor notes for that exam. Phew!

As long as there is a form of competition there will always be cheaters.

Sorry, I should have clarified...the old exams were considered "unapproved study guides" by the student handbook, unless the instructor gave permission to have them.

people actually read the student handbook? Just kidding.

I know several people that cheated numerous times throughout undergrad and are now either m1s or m2s. It happens. There is a point where it catches up to them though. They are usually the people that enter saying they are going to be Derm, orthopaedic surgery and continue to say so despite the fact they barely passed the boards.

If someone figures out how to cheat at my school they are a lot smarter than I am. I'm just not sure how you would do it.

Undergrad.... saw it all the time.

My anatomy professor would come in the night before a practical exam to tag all the bodies (usually 10-11pm ish), get done by 2, which is when the building closed...When asked why he didn't just come in earlier & then lock out the anatomy lab he said that at one of the other schools he taught, some students got into the ducts, Mission Impossible style, & took pics of all the tags.

We have had students cheat in exams (150 people in one class....stuff is bound to happen) so some of the teachers gave out different forms of the exams (w/o telling the students) & lo & behold, the suspected cheaters (all apparently copying off of one or two unsuspecting students, dropped their averages by a ton.

Best (as in easiest) place to cheat is anatomy lab since not too many people cover up their clipboards too well while trying to trace the origin point of a muscle etc

A "future doctor" was caught cheating in my Organic II class. I always sit in the very front row (no, not a gunner, I'm just old and can see/hear better from the front) so I had no idea what happened at first. I just saw someone leave about 5 minutes into an exam and thought....how odd.

The next class some of the people in the row behind me were talking about it. The person had a bunch of mechanisms and various notes on a sheet of paper that they placed under their test.

Anyway, they were given a 0 for that test, and the incident was placed on their record via the dean.

To them I say, good luck with that "future doctor" thing. 🙄

There was this girl in my ochem class too that cheated full blowned. She would text me for the answer. I was shock that she did that so I replied back via text messenging, "well hun, u know nothing is free".

At my school, people are always going to the bathroom during exams. It's always the same people, and what's to prevent them from putting notes in their pocket, going to the bathroom, looking up an answer, and coming back. Or they whip out their blackberry. I am convinved, that at least some of them are cheating.

They probably are cheating. Sad huh. 🙁 People that cheat just really annoy me. Not only the dishonest/moral aspect of it, but I mean come on...what is the point of even going to school if you are just going to cheat yourself out of the education. I'm sorry, but college costs too much time/money to just waste the opportunity by cheating.

All that I have to say is, "cheater cheater pumpkin eater, have a wife and couldn't keep her."

damn that's funny

but as for the cheating in med school. yes it happens, yes they're a bunch of D-bags. yes, eventually someone will get caught...either here or somewhere down the line. it's a risk they're willing to take. now what the administration does about it when you get busted is a whole diff story.

I'm assuming that OCHEM is the most popular of courses that cheaters cheat in. In my Ochem I class there was a group of three individuals that always sat up front during class (I go to a small school with small classes) that noticeably on test day decided they all wanted to sit in the back. I personally think my professor was in on it because she didn't say a word to them, even after EVERYONE heard them whispering asking "what's number so and so". That was really the only time I've seen cheating going on other than that I'm pretty much in the dark about these things lol.

Same thing happen in my class. Everybody sit in the front but when it comes to test day, a group of 5 or 6 would sit in the back. They made it so obvious that they were cheating but the teacher pretend to not hear it. Two of these cheaters wants to go to Medical School; good luck with that one. One wants to go to Carribean School saying she dosent have to take the MCAT. What a douche!

Thats funny. One of the cheaters applied last year to YAle, Harvard, and a couple of big name schools with a 20 on the MCAT. LOL I don't know what her GPA is but that was funny to say the least. Of course she didn't get accept to any of them except the caribbean schools.

This may be true, but wait till she gets the news that she still has to take the USMLE 😉.

Did this person not study at all? I think I got a 20 or 21 on the first practice test that I took completely cold.

Wow I would be embarrass to apply w/ a 20 mcat. And I would never go to FMS. I get air sick.

Well I personally don't think it was a question of whether she studied but more of like what Jagger said, 'karma's a mutha..." But I really don't know what went wrong with her MCAT to tell you the truth.

She didn't use EK. Her Mcat scores went "Meow" on her.

Cheating happens in medical school. At my school first year, a couple blatantly were giving answers to each other in histo practicals. They were turned in by several people in the class. The school just made them repeat year 1 the students demanded their expulsion. the school one but we revised the ethics code. It pissed me off most because i had friends failing the class who could have passed easily if they thought about cheating.

Why does she know your number? And no one's watching you guys take out a phone and text? Wtf.

At every college I've heard of/been to, they have NEVER allowed anyone to go to the bathroom during an exam. They tell us to go right before the exam or we would have to hand it in before going to the bathroom. I think this is precisely why, and if the school doesn't implement this rule then they're asking for it.

We have study groups, so a few of us exchange numbers. Teacher is busy grading tests.
I never understood the going to the bathroom deal. How does that improve your grade? Does these students call their friends for answers?

Nah, they carry study guides on their person and refer to it in the bathroom.

This was in undergrad...a paralyzed bio major always put things in his hoodie front pocket or other parts of his wheelchair and cheated. None of the professors would think a disabled person would do this.

Of course he also was a total @ssh0le, but that was probably unrelated to the cheating. 😀

Well no matter how strict they get on cheating, people will always find a way. I know I will get attacked for this statement but adderall and ritalin is a form of cheating. FOR PEOPLE WHO DO NOT HAVE ADD/ADHD.

They study the night before and boom pass their exam. The problem is that information doesn't stick for good in ones head. So imagine you being treated by a person who took one of these throughout med school.

Thank goodness most med schools have drug tests.🙂

Hmm. Let's see: All cheaters are @sshole but not all @sshole are cheaters. This statement is true. So yes he's an @sshole.

Yeah, I just don't agree that taking adderall is cheating. It's just cramming. People can cram without taking adderall, do you think that is also cheating since "the information does not stick for good in ones head"?

And I will repeat, my friend you are a soldier! Where there's a will, there's a way. I am craving for sushi for some reason. Dang it.

What's worst? Cheating on your gf or cheating in med. school?

CHEATING ON YOUR WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!! AS IF.😎

Well cramming of course isn't cheating. The thing I am discussing is the drug helping you cram. Let's face it you can cram a couple of chapters the night before. With that drug you can memorize a lot of information knock the exam out, crash and forget it all. Aren't we suppose to remember everything we learned in med school or atleast most of the information? Now we cram all the time and forget the information. How will that help us during residency?

If the answer is no bring on the adderall and ritalin 😉

Hmmmmmmmmm well since my ex cheated on me I would get back with her and cheat on her. I would never risk cheating in med school. There is just too much too lose.

If there's such drug. Send it my way. I thought all we had was Ginkoba

If you cheat on a girl, the worst that could happen is that she leaves you. If you cheat in medical school, I can't imagine the consequence; the worst that could happen is being kick out of the program. If this is so you will never be able to get into another med. school. If a girl cheats on you, don't ever take her back or talk to her. That drives them krazy.

What I enjoy is that you and me are the only ones up at this time 😀

Well who would want to risk getting kicked out of med school? Girls come and go, what I love is kids now a days with promise rings and highschool sweethearts. They say "I love (name) and I can't wait to marry them" A couple of weeks later is over. 🙁 All I do when I see this is just laugh this happens everywhere you go.

Really??? Adderall and ritalin help with memorization and more importantly test scores that much? I have no idea since I don't have ADD or ADHD, but I mean I find that hard to believe.

LOL... kids... how old are you then?

Scurred are you an east coaster or west?

Well I know a couple of kids who took adderall during their exams. They were business majors so I'll use them as a example. Well they goofed off the whole semester and when it was exam time. They took the drug and were up for 2 1/2 days. One day before the exam studying, what it makes you do is concentrate.

You become sleep deprived and become dependent on it. Doctors have told me it's like cocaine since the drug is schedule 2. You need a prescription, people caught without one well it's jail time for you.

Well no offense to any business majors out there, but I bet I could pass their exams without reading any of the material...that is, if it was multiple choice 😉 Their programs are typically easier than say, a math or chemistry major's program.

They were business majors though, it may (probably is) be easier material that makes sense so it only takes one go through to get the info as opposed to the science which usually take a more repetitive method to retain even for a few hours. Science also has a lot of detail, how much does business have? <---- That's not sarcasm, I didn't take any business classes so who knows it may have been really tough with a lot of detail.
