I've been working on my list of schools, but it's still a little top-tier-heavy. Does anyone know of some good mid-tier schools that take nonresidents (I live in Jersey)? Thanks in advance.

MCW takes a fair amount of non-residents (about 1/2 the class)

But don't the SUNYs take mostly New Yorkers?

Temple and EVMS also take a good number of out-of-staters. Both will cost you an arm and a leg for tuition though

i would def consider einstein and mt sinai.

Mostly, yes. But there has been an upward trend in out of state applicant success. Since we got us this here smart governor, he realized that we could get more buck for our bang by charging out of state tuition...so the restraints on out of staters is less.

Most SUNYs will give you instate tuition after your first year however. Try SUNY Upstate.

if you consider those "mid tier" - MSSM's averages are quite high.

Most Allo school's averages are quite high. Hard to go by avgs...in fact it is hard to tier schools by most criteria, debated to death

I love it at UCONN and there are some NY/NJ/PENN residents in my class.

So by mid-tier, you mean the middle tier of schools? And there are 125 medical schools. Divide into thirds. According to US News, check out the schools ranked from 41 and beyond.

according to us news there are only 60 ranked schools, so he would have to check schools 21-40

About 1/2 US allopathic schools do not participate in US news' survey

according to usnews, 125 allopathic and 19 osteopathic med schools were surveyed for their annual report, and 119 schools provided them with data.

119 schools provided them with "some" data, not sufficient to complete their "rankings."

So then those schools compose the second half of the middle tier and the bottom tier. That's the only objective way to do it.

Owned! So that means that US News just neglects ranking the lower ranked schools according to their research model. What were you saying, skiz knot?
Yea. I've always felt that US News doesn't list the bottom-ranked schools so as not to embarrass anyone. It's not very encouraging to say a school is ranked dead last among its peers. Besides, after a certain number of schools, these rankings are pretty much negligible. US News just so happened to pick 60 as their cutoff point, but they easily could have ended at the top 40 (but then they may sell fewer magazines).

Fact is, rankings don't matter all that much at the end of the day. Just go where you're going to like it. I know residents here at Sinai that went to "lower tier" schools. Just do WELL wherever you go. And if they offer you money, TAKE IT!
