I know people usually take Step 3 sometime during their intern year, but when during their intern year do they usually take it? (I tried to do a forum search, but most of the results related to timing of Step 3 are questions about taking it before residency.) Any responses are appreciated!

do you have to have your diploma to register? I'm trying to find information on how to register to take this exam, and I can't find anything with my nbme codes etc. Is it because I haven't graduated yet (us allo) or because I'm blind and can't see how to register?

Answered my own question, but for posterity:

You go to the federation of state medical boards: http://www.fsmb.org/ and then go from there. Cost is currently $730.oo and you can't register until after the date on your diploma.

I took mine during my ER month also. Its just like any other Step with the exception of the computer cases. But you've done about a billion admissions by now so you just have to familiarize yourself with the software.

The best time to take it is during the intern year. I have not started residency and I can feel how difficult it is to catch up with the amount of information!:scared:
