I applied this year as a white male and am actaully 1/4 native american. Isn't 1/8 all one needs to be to be considered URM? What do you think schools will say if I apply again next year to some of the same schools as a URM? Will they ask for proof? What sort of proof do they need? It'd make this whole process a whole lot easier. Let me know what you think

In the AMCAS, there is a section that asks you to lists your race. It doesn't ask you to decide if you are an underrepresented minority.
So you are asking if schools like look disfavorably against you because you put down your complete race? Umm...I think I will leave that alone.

Proof of race? Maybe you can bring your grand-father...or whatever grand makes you 1/4. Then you can proclaim loudly, I am URM and I am proud...or maybe you can just represent yourself honestly (whatever that means) when you fill out the application.

URM or not, apply to medical school knowing that you are putting your best foot forward. Stop looking for what you perceive as a favor/handout to make the cut the next time around.

Don't you need some sort of certificate to attest to the fact that you belong to a Native American tribe?

Proof of Tribal Membership is in the form of a Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB card). Eligibilty for Tribal membership can vary; however, most Tribes require 1/4 blood quantum of the Tribe. If you apply to medical schools as a Native American, then you can expect the schools to ask for proof of membership via a copy of the CDIB card. Finally, if your application states you are applying as a Native Amercan and your application show nothing about being involved in any Native American Community, would medical school admission committees look favorably on your application?

You can designate anything that you want in terms of ethnicity and yes, many schools will ask for your "credentials" in terms of being an member of a particular nation.

One of my best friends in medical school was a fair-skinned, firery redhead with blue eyes and freckles who was born in Mexico, spoke Spanish and was definitely a Latina. She has ancestors and relatives from Great Britain but Spanish was her first language and her culture was definitely Mexican Latina. Until she started to speak, one expected an Irish or English accent but she was definitely not Irish or English in cultural identity.

If you really want to make this whole process "easier" don't check any of those boxes. Better to keep them guessing.😎

could i apply as an URM or wutever if im pakistani, NOT indian 🙂

Once again I repeat, and this time I will bold the text
You don't apply as a URM, you put down what race you belong to. If AAMC considers that race a URM, then you are considered a URM. There is no "check here if you are a URM" box. Enough of this, should I mark myself as a URM questions already.
