Here it starts....
Yesterday I got a small envelope from UCSF stating that I am on the top half of a Alternate list of about 100.
The letter is dated May 4th and my letter is postmarked May 5th.
I was put on the high-priority list april 20th.
I interviewed in mid-Feb.

Has anyone yet heard about acceptances for those who were on the high priority list?

Good Luck! Everyone.

oh wow, i am so scared right now. Last I heard, I was on the high priority list so I'm assuming I'll be getting something in the mail on Monday then....ah i can't wait...I am SO nervous about this.

oh no...... i thought i had some more time before the anxious waiting started again. this is no way to live out my senior year. 🙁

i know huh! I don't know how I'll be able to study for finals tomorrow while I'm waiting for the mail...
But I graduate this saturday and I'm leaving on a cruise for a week right after, so I was hoping I'd hear before I leave. I REALLY REALLY hope it's an acceptance but I'm being realistic here...hehe. Good luck to everyone who's waiting.

Got this letter too and I think it is definitely a very good sign (or at least I prefer to think so 🙂 ) Did yours include financial aid information too? I called the financial aid office a while ago to ask if I should fill out the aid application and she discouraged me from doing so unless I found out that I am at the "very top of the waitlist." It sounds like they don't mess around creating extra work for themselves... so take that for what it's worth!

Good luck!

they still send out acceptances to high priority list ppl? :scared:

the language in the original letter made it sound that way but I think that they have already sent out all of their acceptances and the next spots (after May 15th) go to the alternate list. I could be wrong though.

For those of you who received this letter, where are you located? Thanks.

Yeah that may be the case. The way I had understood it was that from the high priority list, they sent out acceptances, alternate list, and rejections. But like tigerseye said, they may have already sent out all their acceptances and are waiting for the 15th to accept others.

Sounds like that letter is a great sign. Congrats! Now, for some completely unverified quick math:

Their original high priority letter said that the high priority category represents 10 to 12 percent of the applicant pool. 12% of 5298 applications = 635. Or if they meant of applicants who get secondaries, 12% = 182. I refuse to believe it's of interviewed applicants, because there are way too many of us.

The letter also says that 20-30% of the HP list ultimately gets in: 20% of 635 = 127, 30% = 200; 20% of 182 = 36, 30% = 54. So if you're in the top 50... looks like you have a great shot.

Congratulations.

Oh man, I've got an O Chem final tomorrow. I thought I had another week free of this agony. I didn't get the letter so I think I'm probably finished at UCSF. I normally get stuff from them the next day so I would have had it by now. We'll see what today's mail brings but I'm not hopeful.

"Top half" letter received today on the East Coast.

Thanks for letting us know deadoralive! I guess if I'm on the alternate list I'll be getting it today! here we go waiting for the mail again. So much for finals...ughhh...gossmer keep us updated! And don't give up yet, maybe not hearing yet is a good thing!!

coco relax and do well on your finals. If you look back in the SDN archives UCSF didn't send out all the alternate list letters at the same time. Some were sent out late May, etc...

thanks elcamino 😀
I didn't get anything in the mail today so I guess I'm not in this batch. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but I don't think anyone does either, so the waiting shall continueeee.............!

"Top half" letter received today in so-cal.
good luck everyone! :luck:

I have actually heard of one person who was on the high priority and then was later admitted, to answer your question, ChaseH.

Good Luck to all of us! :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: (7 charms for good luck--now you know I'm superstitious)

Still nothing in San Diego.

maybe it's cuz we have large envelopes and they take longer to get to SD 😀😀😀 (yes, i know that's ridiculous but i like being optimistic 🙂)

Thats too funny that is exactly what I was thinking yesterday when it didn't come. Probably ridiculous to think that way, but hey I'll take it at this point.

Congrats to you all make it this far in the process. UCSF is indeed a world class school. If you are in the top half of the high priority list, you have a pretty good chance getting in. Lots of my classmates and I were on the list back then. Plenty of good news will come after May 15. Good luck to you all. :luck: :luck:

Hey rex, i met you at the duke second look. if you got into ucsf, would you definitely withdraw from duke and go there?

what's up? it's going to be a tough decision cuz it's location vs. curriculum. why can't duke be AT sf? 🙁

I also received the small envelope yesterday stating that I was on the top half of the list. Seems like good news but I guess we will just have to see. Good luck to those who havent received anything yet....maybe it's even better news

not much! just chillin out until graduation. well, i'm not going to duke, so i have no vested interest. i didn't even apply to ucsf though, so if you get in that would be pretty awesome. i personally would pick ucsf, but only by the smallest of margins. duke is an awesome place though.

good luck! you'll cross that bridge when you come to it.

I got my top half letter today in norcal.

J'Kwan, when was your letter post-marked?

got top half alternate letter yesterday on the East Coast. i'm excited!

coco, you heard anything yet? keep hope alive!

Hey all, I got a bottom-half of waitlist letter postmarked May 8th (I live in SF). I think my chances are pretty bleak (unless anyone has heard of bottom-half people getting in?). Good luck to you all

Nope, I haven't heard anything yet! I hope it's not a bottom half waitlist but it might be since those were apparently sent later than the top half. If anything, I'd be getting it today, right? We'll see...

Anyone else still waiting to hear?

The letter was postmarked 5/5.

Thanks tito. 🙂

I finally found out why I haven't gotten the alternate letter yet.

Cux I got a rejection letter instead. Postmarked the 9th so they must have sent them after they sent the alternate letters.

Good luck to everyone else! Looks like I'm going to Davis - go Aggies!

"second half" alternate list received in San Diego today.

Dated May 8, postmarked May 8

shucks.

oh sheesh, i guess it's gonna be bad news for me too...either bottom half if rcvd today and if i dont get anything, it'll be a rejection to be rcvd tmrw....
ahhhh dont want to get the mail today... 🙁 i am so nervous right now...

Sorry to hear the news but, on the bright side, you still get to go to a great place. Go Aggies. 🙂

 🙁

Glad and sad. But you'll love Duke! Congrats!

Just as I expected, got it today, bottom half 🙁 postmarked May 8th..rcvd in San Diego.

This sucks...big time. I think I would have rather gotten a rejection cuz at least I'd know. Now it's back to waiting for something that I know will never happen...
the coco-ucsf saga is pretty much over!!
Good luck to all of you on the alternate list! tracksuits, I hope you get in 😀😀 Keep me updated!

I'm a bottom-half-er!!!
post-marked the 8th...

second half-er.

ugh, this kills me. you know, they make it a pretty positive letter for what is essentially a rejection...does anyone actually ever get off this half?

ugh, ugh, ugh.

Hey all -
Just got my rejection (post high-priority list) today (postmarked May 9th). I actually live here in San Francisco and will be very sad to leave the city i've grown to love over the last 4 years. On to Denver and the UCHSC class of 2010! (Even if that's a ridiculous acronym for a school in a state with only one med school 🙂 ) Have fun in the SF for all of you who'll be coming here in the fall.

I know, isnt it?? I was like wow this sure is a very nice letter....too bad it's a 99% rejection!!

stop being soooo negative... usually I would agree with you... the glass is always half-er empty... he he he
BUT remember... some of the people on the wait list have also been accepted to UCD and school starts 7/31... which means... if they get accepted to UCSF after the start date... they have to say no... knocking some people off the list... including me 🙄
does anyone happen to know how many have been accepted???? that way we can kind-a figure out how many people off the half-er list get in....

I wish you all the best!!!! Sept 5 is far far far away...
