This topic has been addressed piecemeal in a number of threads about the “cowboy” programs. You know, where “full-spectrum” medicine is taken to the point where family medicine residents are running the traumas, doing the appys, and basically kicking ass! If there’s anything an NP isn’t going to take away from me, somewhere in the year 2020, its going to be my capacity to provide a spectrum of care way beyond what they’re doing at the Wal-mart clinic (but bless their hearts!).

So, where are these programs? If you are at one, or trained at one, or just have second hand information about one, please add to or edit the thread! And anybody, please provide any further information you have about these!!

Tacoma- seems promising

Contra costa- looks good

Salinas- if you want to practice in Spanish!

Klamath Falls, OR (?)

Alaska- it is Alaska for pete’s sake!

Montana- seems more wilderness focused

Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado- gotta be some cowboys in here somewhere!

Texas- not a longhorn fan, but JPS has been mentioned before

Southeast- anyone?

Northeast- ?

Oh yea, and then there’s this place called “Ventura”… pack your spurs..

Alaska. Hmm. This is probably the BEST program, IMHO, but it's in Alaska- and the problem with that is that you have to like flying. And the weather is terrible for flying, you might even get stuck up there during your interview season and it'll screw up your schedule.

The Colorado programs are in Pueblo, Gd. Jct., and Ft. Collins- all sort of medium-sized cities by now.

You are missing Minot, Casper, Cheyenne, Eau Claire, Augusta, Marquette, Duluth, all good programs.

And then there's the rural program in Kansas.

Good luck.

So no one else knows any programs like this?

Please people! Could use some help here!

😎JPS is definitely MACHO and for cowboys and cowgirls!

you listed my top iicks already(ventura, contra costa, salinas, klamath falls, tacoma) but don't forget SPOKANE/U.WA rural option.
I think there is a "cowboy program" in new mexico as well.

Just wanted to get this thread jump-started again. I am in the process of adding a few more programs to my application list and would appreciate some input. I am tee-totally gung-ho an FM cowboy, and as such would like pointers on the best programs to shoot for. Location is only a minor issue, so let's have it.

Cowgirl here. 😉
I'm at Tacoma and it's definitely a gung ho program here. I do more and more is expected of me than most my other FP pals. I think Lawrence Family Med in Mass. is also pretty gung ho - extra points for being a mostly bilangual program as well.
