1+3 versus straight EM programs

As far as the match goes, how does it work applying to 3 year EM programs that require an intern year (BUMC, Lincoln), while also applying to 3 or 4 year programs? I know you would apply to both prelim programs and the ER programs, but how does it work come rank list time?

You link a secondary match list to each one of the 2-4 programs on your primary rank list. IF you match at one of those they then go to the secondary match list you assigned for that program and begin useing it to try and place you in the prelim/transitional spot of your choosing
