I am so sick and tired of people coming on this board and screaming/crying about how there are no jobs in pharmacy.

I am reading posts from people saying that they know licenses Pharmacists who have been unemployed for over a year! This is outrageous.

For all of you unemployed people who can not seem to find a job. Look no further! I will do the work for you!

Just click here: http://www.rxcareercenter.com/ Now go get yourself a freaking job!

There are thousands of posted jobs from employers just begging for someone to work for them.

Do you have a clue about state-specific licensing?

How many of them are actually real jobs?

We've been over this several times before. Just because something is listed online doesn't mean that it exists.

That and the whole state license issue.

Right.

I have an interview that's coming up soon... and I'm all kinds of nervous! :scared:
More excuses?
Wow! Good luck to you buddy... that's coming from someone who's dually employed. 😉

All I am trying to say is... There are plenty of jobs.. I certainly do not want to sound like I am trying to offend you, but all I see so far on this board is a million excuses as to why people can not find a job, and never any reasons why we can find a job.

I am an undergraduate, I am not even in pharmacy school yet, and I already have something lined up for when I graduate in ~4 years. It really is not that hard.

You aren't offending me. You're offending people who live in saturated areas with no end to the saturation in sight. Thankfully, I'm licensed in state that has only 2 pharmacy schools. Some people live in states with 5+ pharmacy schools.

Whenever I got into pharmacy school 6 years ago, I had something lined up, too. I was told to come back after I graduated, but guess what? They weren't hiring whenever I graduated. So do I work there now? No. I don't even live in the same city. In fact, most of my contacts don't even work for the same company anymore!

You sound like one of those flapping heads on fox news. Do you have a job?

how old are you, kid? the people you are accusing of making up excuses do not have their mommy's couch to fall back on when things go awry..... Regardless of what you can turn up on google, you are better off looking at experiences IRL. If the jobs are hard to come by maybe it is you that is missing something as an idealistic undergrad rather than the licensed PharmDs who cannot find placement....

and we shall see about what you have "lined up" IF you get into pharm school in the first place....

So I am an uncontrollable irony machine? 😕

McDonalds?

Jobs are far and in between for people in urban areas, ie: NYC and Chicago. When I was still working (1 year ago), district managers were not giving out new contracts and if they were, it was limited hours. The people that had the highest chance of getting hired were interns that has worked for a while and accrued a lot of experience.

Also, did you look at the job listings? It was a lot of Target and Walmart spamming positions. Also, it included opening for technicians. There are more jobs in rural areas, in places where there are no pharmacy schools around. Do you expect every pharmacist to just move for a job? It is not that easy buddy.

Other valid points are brought up. Many pharmacists do not want to reciprocate their license to another state and most of the postings are probably NOT real openings. I hate belittling, but unless you are a recent graduate, you are not in a position to be critical of others. And there are no employers that are BEGGING for pharmacists to work for them. You need to 1) do some growing up 2) do your homework.

lol! I am in my early 30's, and I have worked for the same company since 1998. I have worked through the ranks starting as a cashier, and ending as a district manager for a big box retail store. I bought the couch that I fall back on at RC Willey a couple years ago after one of my two children trashed it from jumping on it too much.

I am hardly idealistic, and very practical. And yes - I certainly do have something lined up for after I graduate, otherwise I never would have taken this route.

Look - I don't want to stir up trouble. And I admit, I came off too abrasive in my initial post. I am just plain sick and tired of reading the same thing over and over again about how there are no jobs behind the pharmacy counter, when I know from experience that there are plenty. Granted - I understand that some areas might be worse than others, but the vast majority of the pharmacy jobs are still in very high demand.

How do I know from experience that there are plenty of pharmacy jobs out there? Because the company that I work for is constantly hiring and scrambling to keep their positions filled. I know this from working in management.

Rxlea - I can't stand fox news. I voted for Ron Paul for the last election, and I will do so again this election. For those of you who are familiar with Ron Paul, that might show how interested I am in the mainstream media.

My point is - there are jobs available. If doing something as simple as a google search can show me that many jobs, I tend to believe that some real world networking can almost guarantee a job to the people that actually get out there and find them.

I can promise you a job offer at over four years down the line. I also have some nice property for sale in San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge? You may have heard of it. Heck of a deal, too...

I have worked for the same company for 14 years. You are right, nothing is absolutely certain, but if the past is a good indication of the future, I am very confident that it will all work out according to plan. I don't know anything about the Golden Gate Bridge, but I do know enough about my work relationships to feel confident that I know what I am doing when this is over.

Well said. 👍

You guys on your phones or something? Just look at the sig for goodness' sake!

Checking SDN on my computer??? Psssh...then it means I have to do work when I stare at my to do sticky notes on my desktop. Speaking of which, I should get started on some of that. Boo.

And there are no employers that are BEGGING for pharmacists to work for them.

Actually, that is false. The military seems to be doling out quite lofty compensatory packages to pharmacists that join their ranks. I mean, they even have Health Profession Recruiters for Pharmacists and other professions. I don't know what you would consider "begging", but having recruiters throwing quasi-sales pitches at you and promising you a bunch of stuff seems awful close from my perspective.

goddamn people are dumb..

this is like the 5th time i've said this.... "just because there's a job listing doesn't mean there's an actual job behind it."

::rolls eyes::

will see you all again when someone posts a "LOOK A TON OF JOBS!" thread next year.

well this just makes the whole thing that much sadder 🙁
Good luck again if you make it to pharm school and if you make it through and if you actually have whatever it is lined up at the end.... what sort of retail store are we talking? I suspect you are just stacking your chips on some connection you have within the store for this assumed position you have waiting for you in 4 years.... because THAT totally supports your claims here 🙄

Probably truck driver.

They must make a TON more than pharmacists...I just found out it's gonna cost me almost $800 to get my car shipped from Atlanta to Texas for rotations. 🙄

If you want easy money be a truck driver....they are making $800 off shipping my car alone. Not bad at all.

I didn't know trucks ran on tap water. I gotta get me one of those cars :meanie:

Do you think that $800 is all profit? Is there any cost incurred by the company that is shipping your car?

Not all profit but mostly? hmmm...I am not sure how much profit though! I figure 1 car for almost $800...if they ship 10 or 15 cars at one time on a truck that's what? $8000 to $12,000 dollars for ONE shipment! My guess is it cost maybe $200 or $300 to fill up a truck with gasoline...it can't possibly cost them anywhere near $8000 or $12,000 to drive a truck from Atlanta to Texas!

(I am just bitter that I have to pay money out..LOL...)

Class 8 18-wheeler @ 5mpg
Distance from Atlanta to Dallas 800 miles
160 gallons of diesel
160 gallons x $3.80 = $608 in fuel

+ 5 year loan on a $150,000 truck + trailer @ 6% = $2830/mo

+ taxes, liability insurance, broker fees, etc..

Wait, 800 miles...why don't you just drive the dang thing yourself? I think you might be overpaying, I'm paying $1075 to ship my car 3000 miles to the west coast.

WOW damn are you serious?

I didn't know the fuel for a truck is that expensive! daaammmnnnnnnn! LOL....

I pay $50 to fill up my Volvo every 10 days and that is already TOO damn expensive IMO. $608 for fuel is crazy! I had no idea. LOL...

I am getting it shipped to Houston, Texas from Atlanta...It's around a 13 hr drive.

Here is the catch....My block 3 rotation last till Friday August 31....My block 4 rotation starts on Sept 3rd in Texas....so I have TWO DAYS....Sept 1 and 2 to drive to Texas...that's really rushed don't you think?

I mean if I had 1 week off then maybe that's fine...but I have TWO DAYS to drive 13hrs! That's crazy...and not to mention I have to get my stuff organized my room cleaned, my stuff unpacked etc. So I figure it would be much quicker to fly...

What's your opinion on this?

My mother is scared that I would be too tired driving 13 hrs by myself too.

Here is the weridest thing....

I got prices from $650 to $800...

But the lower prices are from companies that haven't been around for as long....The company that I want has been in business for 11 years and he is charging me like $750 for it....

Okay the weridest thing was he told me that from Texas to Atlanta he will only charge me $450, BUT from Atlanta to Texas it's gonna be $750! 😕

I ask him WHY and he told me that's how the market is....😕 I am going the SAME distance but my shipment BACK is gonna be $300 less...OKAY...😕

I don't know much about this topic, so excuse me if this is a silly question... If pharmacy is so saturated, as some people state, why does the ACPE or whoever is in charge of approving the opening of these new schools keep doing so? Is it solely revenue based? Or do they believe there is a shortage of pharmacists graduating every year?

Seasonal fluctuation and demand. Like there's tons of demand from people vacationing in Florida so they get their cars shipped all at once may drive up prices (or down). Or, if there's low demand going from Texas to Atlanta the driver may not be able to fill up his truck with cars and have to charge more.

Cool makes sense!

You think I should get my car shipped right?

I mean I have 2 days to drive 13 to 14hrs. That's alot and I have to start rotation again the following Monday...😱

What would it cost to just rent a car to use while you are in Texas? Or just take public transportation.

is the broker guaranteeing the days you need your car? i get a 48 hour window for the driver to pick up unless i pay more...that could explain why it costs more for you (you asking for precise dates).

i would just drive it but i'm used to long drives and kind of enjoy them

I asked the Toyota place how much it is to rent the cheapest car for a month and they told me it's around $600 a month to rent a car! I will be in Texas for 7 months so that's gonna be too expensive! 🙁

Not sure if Houston has public transportation...I guess I could look that up! 🙂

Only place I ever use public transportation is in New York City....I recommend public transportation in NYC but not sure about other places...not sure if it will be reliable....

Do you think I should drive it or is it worth paying $750 for b/c I only have TWO DAYS to drive 13 to 14 hrs!

Yeah I did...I said it has to be there on Sept 1st! No earlier or later! Yeah, that's why it's more expensive!

Maybe I should drive it....I am still deciding...I have till August 31th to make up my mind on this STRESSFUL MOVE! 🙄

Why don't you drive to CA from Philly? hehehehe....

Wait, I thought this discussion was about pharmacy jobs, or is it about cars? It's funny how the topics always starts from one point and turns into another.

whoa that's way too advanced...he probably won't even get a response from central dispatch until a few days before. Cancel it, drive to NOLA and stay overnight, then push through the last 6 hours to houston.

and heck no i'm not driving to CA...i have too much to do.

you haven't been here very long have you? haha

this will devolve into an alaska pharmacy job, medicaid, and cocaine thread soon...very soon.

Just drive the ****ing car SHC. Seriously. You can listen to Lady Gaga and wear your coach sunglasses all the way there.

Federal antitrust laws. As a DOE recognized accreditation body ACPE cannot, by law, limit the # of schools on the basis of supply and demand.
