I have an undergrad from another country and a grad degree in the US. I was wondering if AMCAS accepts transcripts from the undergrad instituition directly? Do they need to be evaluated by ECE or WES?

Also, how do I justify the grading sysytem. For example, 65% is equivalent to an A in the US instituitions! The top grade of the graduating class was 71%. The grading is quite harsh and there are no multiple choice questions. Oh get this, our papers are always graded by professors from another university who have no clue who we are. Please help!

AMCAS does not verify your grades from intn'al schools unless they are mentioned on their list. I am in the same situation and plan to send my transcripts directly to AMCAS from UGrad school. However, do not try to convert your grades, put in what ever is ohe transcript (i.e. 68 or 87 or whatever you have for that subject and don't convert and put A .. leave it the way it is)

Hi, thanks for your response. I just called AMCAS and they said that they won't accept transcripts from any international institution. She basically asked me to just enter the grades as is. The schools may later ask for transcripts and we'll have to talk to the individual schools and get more detail.

I ran into this difficulty. You cannot use international grades on the AMCAS form. You also cannot use the WES estimated GPA for the AMCAS form. If you enter the WES grades, AMCAS may leave them there but they will not be "verified"; that is, the WES GPA is not considered in your primary application. For AMCAS to even do this, you absolutely must send them a verified transcript from your undergraduate institution overseas.

The best thing you can do is send the WES evaluation directly to schools if you receive a secondary application. Some schools will look at it and other will not, I found.

Your grad. degree will show up with a GPA on the AMCAS form. Some schools used this along with my MCAT but I'm uncertain about how seriously they took the WES conversion in their decison to interview. It's worth doing all you can and hoping for the best. Good luck!
