NHSC Application Process

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
That salary is in...Missouri. From the few posts I've seen from folks on here, the salary was actually more around 80-100 +/-10. What makes the positions competitive in benefits is the obvious lack of debt, as well as things like paid vacation/holidays, retirement matching, CE credit, etc.

Yeah I think most will be around 90,000. If you have a decent amount of debt from school ~280,000 those payments are around 35,000 a year so we could add an extra 35,000 onto whatever salary we get

ha you scared the crap out of me for a split second

Got that sent to me

Remind me to kick you when we start this fall.

Does everybody have the link titled "ROLES" at the top of their customer service portal? My friend and I have two different customer service portals...

I also have a link titled "roles" which gives me two options to pick from: participant or NHSC SP applicant.

why can't they release the results already so we can stop worrying? haha

Yeah.... When I click on the participant one.... it still says that I cannot sign in with my information.

But, my friend does not have that link at all... I bet they just do stuff like this and watch the SDN board go crazy, haha!

It depends on which portal page you can go to. If you used to go to the portal via the app page, then it'd take you straight to the NHSC Scholars App portal. If you go to the nhsc site now, it takes you to some generic application portal where all of the things are listed.

Yeah, I was wondering that... It appeared on my app and I have been signing in the same way each time. But, when I looked around I realized how confusing the app portal is, so, it must just be a weird portal thing.

I'm signing off SDN for ONE MONTH! starting now! haha (minus when I am bored and when I am at school....)

It looks like the CBC/DHHS/BPHC checked my credit history today according to my credit report update. Just updating err'body.

:barf:

If you just want to check it once, you can go to:

www.annualcreditreport.com (this is the only truly free one)

you put in your information and then you can check your credit report from three different agencies. Start with Experian... They are typically the best at having up to date info...

Once you are looking at your report, you should be able to click on a link to see "who" has been requesting your credit information.

If they have checked, it will say that "CBC/DHHS/BPHC" has checked your credit report on 7/15 (today) (It also clarifies that it is the federal government)

CBC = Congressional Black Caucus (?!?!)
DHHS = Department of Human Health and Services
BPHC = Bureau of Primary Health Care

"CBC/BUREAU OF PRIMARY HEALTH CARE" Requested my history on July 3. Fingers crossed for good news this August! :xf:

Yeah and CBCINNOVIS requested my equifax today as well...

I wonder what the difference between July 3rd and July 15th was? I read on the med forum that another dude got his checked on July 3rd.

July 15th must be the alternate list... 🙁 haha!!

So if i don't see CBC/DHHS/BPHC requesting my credit information on Experian, should I take that as not being considered for the scholarship?

Thanks!

I wouldn't think so... ATG had his credit pulled on the 3rd and mine was pulled on the 15th.

We'll just have to wait and see (which I hate doing) haha. :luck:

Just got a call asking me why one of my default records was removed from my credit report.

(I got rejected for a credit card two years ago and checked my credit to see why and it said that I was late and defaulted on a government loan... WHICH I HADN'T!... So, I fought and finally proved that it was a clerical error and they removed it, but, it looks like the NHSC still could "see" that it was removed)

Regardless... The very kind lady said that "results will be sent out very sooooooooooooooooon"

(extra O's to express the way in which she said "soon")

Anybody else have their credit pulled?

sooooooooooooooooon or sooooooooooooooooooon? That's a difference of two o's and could mean a world of difference!!

Also remember a governmental 'soon' could mean a month, lol.

Does it make a difference that she called my "sugar" twice?

No credit check for me, I am assuming that having a credit check is significant good news as it makes no sense to pay money to check the credit for those not being considered seriously for the scholarship. Congrats to those who look like they are moving forward in the process! As for me, I will try again next year.

Out of curiosity, do any of you have any information on how selecting 2, 3 or 4 years of scholarship might impact the chances of receiving the scholarship? I requested only 2 years which in hindsight might have been a mistake because it shows I may not want to do public health my entire career.

Sadly, I would imagine that requesting two years would look like a lack of interest. But, I really wouldn't get too worried yet, like I mentioned earlier, they checked ATG credit on the 3rd and mine on the 15th... So, why not more on the 18th? haha. Also, everyone is assigned an "analyst" (from what I have read) so, maybe your analyst just has no sent his group to get their credit pulled yet. Just thoughts. Where are you going to school sacapuntas?

I looked at my credit report through Equifax and it was check on 7/11 by CBCINNOVIS: #....
I personally know someone who received the scholarship (not dental) last year and never had their credit checked by NHSC. I was the one who ran the credit report so this is not "grapevine" talk....aka stay positive.

ps I am not a new member but I changed my username to a less revealing title...just fyi

Good to know, Tounchie! haha, jk.

Keep this thread going with any new info we have. Notices from financial aid, getting our credit checked, calls from the NHSC, etc.

You give me hope. I didn't have any check as of a few days ago.

Hot off the press...

They just announced a few of the 2013 Nurse Corps Scholarship recipients. That has typically coincided with the NHSC announcements.

Here we go...

Nice! Hopefully we get an email bearing good news this week or next.

Dude!! I got an email! I'm in...

....vited to play in this local golf tournament! I'm stoked.

No news for NHSC yet though. :/

I threw up in my mouth a little when I read the first part...

Hahahahahahahaha!!!

New rule of this forum...no doing this^^^ lol. I get sick every time I see one of these posts

I logged in to check my app and see if there was any news I noticed that where it says 'Your overall application status is:' is blank after that. In the past I remember it saying 'Under Review'. Anyone else?

Mine says "under review" still

I hope they are slowly updating them today and then they will send out an EMAIL!

Hey all, I'm about to start my sophomore year of undergrad and I'm determined to be a dentist. Like many others, the debt is quite frightening, and this scholarship would suit my ultimate goal of helping people. When I heard about it, I was immediately intrigued and hopeful of getting the honor.

Can I ask what are some things I can do, starting now, to be a strong NHCS applicant? What types of things do they look for? I've read most of the information on the website but it seems a bit vague to me...If I could be pointed in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Also, one other question. So you get to choose where you work, correct? So if my home and family is in Orlando, would I have to go very far (out of state) or is it possible to work close to home? Thanks.

Well, I have no idea if this information is going to be worth while because I have no idea if I received the scholarship or not.

However, you will have to show an extensive history of working with underserved populations. So, start there. There are plenty of opportunities to work with underserved in Orlando.

You can choose where you work as long as there is a need there and it has a score of 14 or higher. So, you might end up having to move far from Florida.

I would start volunteering now!

Meh. Even if it ends, they'll sign contracts they can fulfill. They won't offer 4 years now, then in a year take it back and say oops, we can only do one year. You're out of luck. I predict it'll receive funding, especially with all the ACA stuff flying about.

It won't end. It will be just like the college loan interest rate increasing because they missed the deadline then they fixed it after the break.

I think when the finalists are emailed... I am going to take a hiatus from SDN for a month.

HAHA

Dude, imagine if you accidentally hit 'Withdraw' in the portal while checking the status...

SERIOUSLY,

In my sick mind... I always contemplate hitting it t see if there is a pop-up that says "are you sure?"

I have actually been tempted to push it every time I have been on there (about 10 times a day lol) kind of like always wanting to pull the fire alarm.

I wonder if we could be the "Thread of the Day" for 2 days in a row!? :highfive:

Anybody else have their credit ran? So far we have credits being ran on the 3rd, 11th, and 15th.

I wonder if they are still running credits?

🙄
