Any Canadians in here??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So this Ryerson program is seeming like a pretty good option right now. I'm really not feeling the whole application process all over again. Any comments or warnings for this?

Also has anyone heard from York??

Guelph anyone? ?

These universities are doing great at being silent.

York did not end up accepting any external PhDs into their program.

I have heard that the Ryerson program is going to be great - the profs are supposed to be amazing and the director definitely is. I think you should absolutely go for it.

Didn't apply to Guelph..

Emailed the clinical director about the Ryerson program and this is what he said about cpa accreditation:

What is the likelihood of CPA accreditation?

Everything will be in place for CPA accreditation, and I am 100% we will get it. However, CPA typically requires a full class to go through the entire program before they will grant accreditation. Therefore, it is not 100% sure that it will be accredited while our first class is still in the program. We will certain try.

-END-

So if I'm in this first class and they're not accredited by the time I'm finished what happens? I'm screwed?

Any thoughts on this please?

Namely and chiefly, because the APA stopped accrediting Canadian schools for financial reasons. From what I understand, they didn't even TELL the Cdn schools...they just put up an announcement on their website.

The Cdns are pretty bitter about this 😉

Nice Driveway! You are breaking my heart! Where is this website announcement? On APA? I can't find it anywhere. I am totally banking on Canadian schools...but if I can't go to a school that wil lbe APA accredited, I don't think I'll do it. I think it's silly! I think it totally makes sense to do dual accreditation. Canadians and Americans academics cross paths quite often, I believe. Why not? It makes sense for both countries.

Okay guys, I did some hardcore digging today and found some info for us.

CPA specifications for accreditation are actually MORE strict than APA's. It's just a matter of the two working out their relationship with each other. American students should still be able to go to Canadian universities and be treated the same when they go back to look for jobs in the US.

The operate word: "should"

Thanks so much, Raynee. This was really helpful. I was looking around on APA and didn't find anything. I guess it could still be possible to go to school in Canada and have the APA recognize your credentials. I'd like to know more about how this will work. If anyone else has heard about how this will affect students returning to their home country after graduate study in Canada or the US...I think many of us would like to know!

This is an interesting question. A friend of mine is thinking about applying, I should warn her about this.
