Anyone hear from Rush?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Did anyone else get a cryptic email from Rush this morning?

The subject was promising and said "Rush Medical College Interview Confirmation" but the body of the email only had "-1".

I assume that this a part of the coding system that they use, but I have no idea what it means. I have had nothing but frustrations with Rush admissions. They "weren't there" to receive the delivery of my secondary which had to be resent (empty admissions office - not good) and then said that I was missing proof of citizenship which I had to resend...and now this. Urgh.

Uhhh - read this thread - thats what its about.

You'd think Rush would sent out an email right away this morning explaining that this is a mistake. But of course, silence from them!

They took over a month to respond to my emails and acknowledge my LORs. So I doubt they'll email us anytime soon...

Man, I really don't think I want to go to Rush anymore. If their admissions process is like this, I don't want to know what it'll be like as a student there...

Then if you end up with an interview, I'll take it! I'm as annoyed as anyone else, but right now i'd be happy as a clam just to get an interview somewhere. anywhere. 🙂 (and i love chicago)

Sorry...I didn't see that this thread had 4 pages.

This is worse than I thought. Rush is not my friend. Technical glitches is one thing, but to do this to us tightly wound pre-meds. Explanations needed all around.

Unfortunately, you probably would. We're so desparate that we'll go to theses schools that are seemingly run by dimwitted trolls. *clears throat Drexel* I know that I would leap to at the chance to go to drexel or rush despite their incredible lack of organization.

SYSTEM TESTING ERRORS 10/20/06 – 10/23/06

During recent internet system testing, some applicants erroneously received an email with “Rush Medical College Interview Confirmation” in the subject line and containing a “-1” in the content section. These emails are meaningless and should be ignored.

A few applicants also were able to select an interview date. However those dates are not valid and again, should be ignored.

Rush Medical College and InfoStatz sincerely apologize for these errors and for any confusion we may have caused.

As of 10/23/06, Rush has NOT yet issued any interview invitations.

Very, very, very upset with Rush. How could they toy with us like that. Not cool. Two Thumbs down to Rush.

Yeah, I was soooo excited to see that email and then to log in and read that it was an accident. Rush, call my name for REAL this time. Say my name! Let's do this thing!!!

I got the email too. Saw the "-1" and got pissed. That's the last straw...Rush. 😡 😡 😡

So sorry to everyone that had a coronary this morning like me. This is not something to screw with us about. Esp. for those who have Rush as a top choice.

At least we all had a coronary together, like one big, happy family.

So, yeah. I got one of the "-1" emails, too. Almost called my parents and everything. Fortunately I checked Rush's site first. Here's a question to anyone who knows about mass emailings: Do you think that the "-1"s meant "no interview" and the "select interview date" meant "you get an interview"? Don't jump down my throat on this, it's just a crazy idea from a freakin stressed guy. I just thought perhaps they were preparing to break the news one way or the other.

i think everyone got this one. and some people got both.

I heard from Rush this morning and was real excited when I first opened my inbox, and saw

-1

But after I emailed my advisor it was deemed an "unfortunate accident". I'll let you know what happens with them. I have no idea what "-1" means, probably nothing, just a computer glitch.

log in to rush's website you will see what it means..this has already been addressed

You guys, lets try to not read too much into it besides a computer glitch. I don't think they were "secretly" trying to let us know our statuses.

That's not at all what I meant. What I was getting at was the fact that there are ways of inserting generic messages into emails, and I was wondering if they just coded it wrong. They did so in another of my emails, putting "{Date}" instead of the date and "{Name}" instead of my name. Obviously supposed to be the actual name and date.

I know, I know. I just don't think we should get into a bunch or get the kiddies in a bunch over it at all. If they are having coding problems, they probably don't even have the right lists made anyway. They were probably trying to test things and OOPS, sent it to everyone.

well in that case a - usually is not good and likely means no

i can just see it now....when interview invites do go out, we'll all have fun comparing them to these emails. also, people who aren't complete are getting both these emails, so really...there's not much to read in to here.

Right! 👍

Great point... I guess this is the product of me being stressed, roller-coastered, and under-informed. It breeds conspiracy theories. 😕

hey i applied to rush, and recieved an email that i was complete on 10/18, but i didnt get the strange interview invite email with a -1, and by the way, im a computer engineer, that -1 could literally mean anything, i wouldnt read anything into it...

I withdrew from Rush a week ago and still got the -1 e-mail.

Sweet, just what I wanted to hear (well, I guess besides hearing that it meant "interview"). That -1 scared me for some reason.

Let's create a new dx for 'collective coronary'. A multi-occlusion perhaps...

Back to waiting.

yeah the -1 freaked me out.. haha then i was thinking maybe its like:
-1 yes (interview)
0 maybe (on hold)
1 no (rejection)

guess it looks like we are ALL interviewing!! 😀

it sucks for you guys. but The symptoms sound as a condition that is termed in our circles as "premature interview invitation." Good luck!

So I see they sent us an email saying what we've all heard via the phone message or the website by now. I'm just glad to see they are actually sending me emails that have information in the body since I never received that other email from them!

imagine they made the same screwup for acceptance e-mails..

The worst part of the whole thing is that the e-mail we got wasn't even an apology. It basically just stated the facts and wasn't from anyone, just a mass mailing. Very disapointing

anyone up for a class-action lawsuit? Personal distress and emotional damage, leading to pre-med heart attacks everywhere. Come on guys, we can make millions, and then bribe the Rush Medical College President to send an e-mail to the admissions officers with the subject line reading: "Rush Medical College Office of Admissions Department Wide Salary Raise." Then, in the body of the e-mail we'll say "Just kidding. You're all fired."

Muahahahaha

So they were clearly "testing" their system in preparation for sending out invites this past weekend, so where are they? C'mon Rush!!!

Rush is actually trying to reverse their trend from last year of accepting more people by not interviewing or accepting anyone this year I heard.

Anyone want to take a gamble on when the "real" interview invites will go out? My vote is for this Thursday, right after the next round of their internet testing.

I got a real invite this morning.

How do you know it's a real invite? What if they just screwed up again?

There is always that concern; however, I feel more confident in this message body:

"After careful review of your application for admission, Rush Medical College would like to extend to you an on-campus interview!"

than this one:

"-1"
