Step I Edition of review books
Started by sunnydays
You should probably go pick up the 2004 edition of First Aid. Aside from that, only buy review books that deal with subjects from your first year (I can't tell from your post if that is your intent or not). I waited until the beginning of each course to buy the respective review book, and everything seemed to work out for me. In any case, with the exception of First Aid, don't buy any second year review books until you actually take those courses.
I concur with Stinger. I'm betting there will be a new BRS Path and BRS Phy over the next two years because there is a lot (or maybe just some) info that needs to be put in the books. Path didn't have all the effects of cytokines and the Costanza's Physiology which she wrote 2 years after BRS has more info. I would say get first aid, then buy them right before class.

The new edition of BRS Behavioral Science is due 1/2005. Dr. Barbara Fadem, the BRS author, has recently published another concise book, Behavioral Science in Medicine ISBN: 0-7817-3669-2. It is very easy to read.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

how come you are in tune with all the latest editions?! are you a publisher or something? that's pretty cool that you know which editions are coming out when!
Yes, I manage the medical education list for Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. I usually try to make this clear in my posts as I don't want people thinking that I'm trying to sell my products.

He does sign the Lippincotts Williams and Williams on his sig all the time. Thanks a lot Scott. Sure looks like my look into the crystal ball was accurate. Missed the BRS behav science one. Hey, we have some questions in the clinical forums about books if you want to head over there.
Does anyone know what the difference, if any, would be between the First-Aid 2003 and 2004 editions?
Hey Scott, is there going to be a new Lippincott's Pharmacology, the current one was published in 2000?
Also, is there going to be any new editions for the books in the High Yield series? Many of the high yield series are well over 4 years now...
Thanks

The new edition is about 100 pages longer. Here are the details on the new edition:
Each chapter begins with an overview that generally summarizes the topics to be covered in that chapter.
Cross-references within the book to other relevant information in the volume reinforce and expand the original information.
Cross-references between volumes in the series ?Biochemistry?, ?Pharmacology,? and ?Microbiology? (Info-Links).
Over 125 USMLE-style questions with answers and explanations allow readers to check progress in mastering the material.
Concept maps help communicate complex ideas and aid learning by presenting a visual overview of the relationships between the most important concepts in the chapters when necessary, but most are self-contained within a single chapter.
End of Chapter Summaries of the most important/clinically significant testable information on the USMLE Step 1exam.
Over 626 Illustrations. Figures include small and large graphics that ?tell stories? aiding the student?s initial learning and understanding of the subject.
A large chapter at the end of the main text that presents chapter summaries matched with key phrases that the students can use to self-test prior to a class examination or USMLE Step 1.
Entire book is 4-color!
Hope this helps.

Scott, which book are you actually talking about?
I've seen online that you're going to have a new Lippencotts Biochem, is that what you're talking about, or should we be expecting a new Lippencotts Pharm as well?
Thanks

Scott and I have been having a running dialogue off and on studentdoctor. I didn't mean to confuse anybody. I just lost track of where I was talking to Scott. The answer to you question is Lippincott Biochemistry.
