I don't think Case screens but I know for a fact NYU screens. Or at least puts some applicants on hold and doesn't invite them to submit secondaries until later.

dude, NYU just rejected half the pool pre-secondary. Where you been 🙂 My list was comprised after calling each and every one of the schools. 🙂

hey thanks so much, derf!! I greatly appreciate that.

really?? i got an e-mail from nyu almost immediately after i was verified by amcas and it basically said "we received your submission and invite you to submit a secondary..." didn't seem like they screened and it doesn't make any mention of it on their website. here's a link that also seems to think nyu doesn't screen:
http://www-scf.usc.edu/~dkimball/sdn/

but they might be outdated and you're probably right if you called...

Check this link out

i think most people who were put on hold for now will eventually get secondaries because it's obvious that the process otherwise seems very random reading the testimonials... but i'm still confused :X

Yeah, since that link is for the 2003-2004 season, it's outdated. Last year, NYU had it's own application, so naturally the number of applicants was lower than this year, when they decided to join AMCAS. NYU definitely screens, as evidenced in the link above. I think, however, that their screen is primarily GPA, b/c I got through with a sub-par MCAT.

Yeah I think I remember the consensus being that NYU's screen places a strong emphasis on BCPM.

MSSM doesn't screen. I filled out the secondary without being invited.

I was under the impression that NYU doesn't screen...
same with Case and Mount Sinai- I know they sent me their secondary when I asked for it at least!

Oh and UNC screens- quite hard for out of state at least

NYU definitely screens. Check out the MSAR, and I was also not invited to fill out their secondary. Case and Mout Sinai does not screen (also on MSAR).

The funny thing about this thread (and others like it), people always come up and argue whether or not a school screens. I know that someone called the adcoms and found out for themselves, but unless we ask every AMCAS applicant if they got a rejection or hold from a school before receiving their secondary, then we don't know for sure whether a school screens or not.

Additionally, the schools that screen or don't change from year to year. For example, Stanford and Duke stopped screening for this year. They were pretty heavy screeners in the past. Maybe it's a financial thing, or maybe they truly want every applicant evaluated on not just GPA/MCAT.

Just my US$0.02. I wonder how many Mexican pesos that is?

I agree with Jason110 on this. Schools change year to year. I'd say if you really want to know-- ask the schools. And maybe at the end of the season we can put together some data on who got rejected at what stages to determine if people screen or not...

In the end, screening doesn't matter. Are you not going to fill out a secondary because a school does not screen and you're afraid of losing your money? Then you prob shouldn't have sent your AMCAS to them in the first place. Put your energy into your secondary and go for that interview!

Does Medical College of Wisconsin screen?
Thanks 😳

so what is the verdict on sinai? do they screen? i didn't think so because i got their secondary very quickly..but who knows.
