Hi! I was wondering if any of you could offer some advice on purchasing these kits. I am trying to decide between the welch-allyn and the heine brands. What do you have? Do you like it? Thanks!

I got the Keeler set -- I liked the optics of their o-scope and how it fit in my hand the best. The WA was my 2nd choice. WAs are nice because they're less expensive, and they're what's commonly found wall-mounted in many offices. As far as retinoscopes go, they're pretty much the same, so choose based on your o-scope preference.

Good luck with your decision! 🙂

I have heine and I like it... I got two smaller lithium handles. Great !!

But... it's all personal preference and you get used to whatever it is you buy. But, when you're out in the real world.. you grab whatever's hanging on the wall and deal with it. I've used some very ANTIQUATED slit lamps. But, they're still functional.

When do students have to purchase their set?

at PCO first years order them this week

 -- I've used a few "antique" slit-lamps (and keratometers), too. 😉

SUNY orders theirs around now (give or take a couple weeks), too. We got a chance to practice with all of them -- we could even sign them out and take them home -- before we had to choose one.
