Perhaps they are only considering probabation as below in one fo their letters:
This letter is to inform you that the Residency Review Committee (RRC) for
Radiation Oncology, under the authority of the Accreditation Council for
Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), has recently proposed probationary
accreditation of our program. Our program and faculty remain committed to
providing the highest quality training and educational experience for our
residents, and we are confident that the changes being made to our program
will further improve the resident experience and lead to a favorable action
and full accreditation in the future.
We have responded to the proposed action and are in the process of
rectifying areas of concern raised by the RRC. We will, however, not learn
of the RRC's final decision until after the application and interview season
has ended, and probably not until after the match list is due. Therefore,
although not required by the ACGME, since decisions regarding your
application to our program may be affected by the RRC's final decision, the
faculty believe it is important that all applicants are made aware of the
possibility of our program receiving probationary accreditation.
So the question remains, why such action?
