I will be graduating this fall (Dec.) with a B.S. in a different field. If I decide to go into medicine, here is what my proposed schedule will look like. Is it okay? Do you have any suggestions?
Spring 2006
Chem I
Bio I
Physics I
Summer 2006
Chem II
Bio II
Fall 2006
O Chem I
Physics II
Anatomy
Study for MCAT
Spring 2007
O Chem II
Cellular or Molecular Bio
Study for MCAT

Is it wise to work while going to school? I know it's inevitable that I will have to do shadowing and volunteering. But, if I worked also, could I be a medical assistant? If so, I know community colleges offer this program in 45 credit hours or less. Is it unwise to do this program at the same time/rate that I will be taking the pre-reqs?
Thank you so much!

I only took summer school once during college and thought it was rought taking one science class since they go by so fast. In your proposed schedule I see 2 so that might be harder...obviously I don't know you so you might fully capable of handling that. Taking 3 science classes during each quarter is a bit hard...a lot of people don't like doing it. Lastly you wrote you will study for MCAT during Fall 2006...however during that quarter and the following you are taking A LOT of science classes. Whenever you take your MCAT you should try to have as light a schedule as possible since you will need to devote a lot of time. Taking OChem 2 and cell bio while studying for MCAT imo will be tough.

I agree, the summer session is very fast paced and if you are working as well, two classes might be too much. Also dont forget about the labs associated.

You could probably drop the anatomy class since it's not required and isn't going to be particularly helpful for the MCAT. That would give you more time to study or perhaps take switch one of the labs from summer '06 to fall '06. For those summer classes, take the full summer session, don't sign up for one of those 5 week sessions, it's hell.

Yeah, that's a good idea, drop cell bio, too. Focus on the MCAT. You'll be glad for the extra time.
