🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁
I got rejected from Harvard today. I interviewed there, and so thought my letter wasn't going to be mailed until Monday. I wasn't even expecting it. So disappointed.

Whaaaaaa???? Are you lying...?

d00d, I'm so sorry. That sucks.

06, if you don't mind me asking, where are you located?

bummer. sorry to hear it, especially since it seems so unexpected. i'm sure you've got some other great choices though! 🙂

Me too. I really thought my interviews went well. They must have put our letters in with those who didn't even interview.

not an applicant or interviewee, but wishing you all the best of luck

I got my non-interview rejection several days ago, so I don't think they put us together... not that it's any consolation... 🙁

I guess it's true what they say about there being no correlation between having good interviews and getting accepted.

My interviewer even ended my interview saying I "would be great for Harvard".

And I would have been, oh well.

omygod i can't believe they sent out decisions already...sorry to you guys who have heard 🙁 ...i thought my interviews went well, too, but you never know exactly what people really think...i mean, the interviewers could have been fond enough of all their interviewees, though at heart only a few really struck them as "harvard material"...either that or your interviewers really do try to promote you as much as they can, but it came down to some other factor (recommendations or numbers or pure bad luck)...

I hope there's no correlation, because I wasn't very happy about my interviews at Harvard, but am still very HOPEFUL for an acceptance. My confidence is pretty low right now though because my last two decisions have been waitlists... 🙁

To those who have received post-interview rejection, did you interview with New Pathways or HST? Just curious.

Thanks

Oh no... I'm sorry, 06 and Josh! What a bummer. And what a surprise. I truly hope you wind up somewhere you love.

New Pathway

I didn't want to go to Harvard anyway... just joking, but some people actually say that after getting rejected. I still want to go.

Did anyone else who interviewed get rejected yet?

The letter was dated March 10, and the postmark said March 10. I got it today at 3pm in Connecticut. I'm still in shock since I was sure it wasn't even going to be mailed until Monday. What?

Maybe all the rejections went out 3/10, and the acceptances will go out 3/13. I know Duke sent out acceptances 3/1 and waitlists 3/3, so Harvard could have a similar system.

06, Josh - hang in there. And more than that, thanks for being able to post on here so that it won't be quite as bad as a shock to others. Best of luck.

was it regular mail? or priority?

sorry, i'm sure many more rejections will come by to the rest of us soon enough

My favorite type of post on this forum is "i'm sorry you got rejected. What type of postage/where are you from"

Fastforward ten years: "I'm sorry Mr. Smith, you have cancer. How will you be paying for your appointment today?" 😱

Law2Doc, that was very FUNNY!!!!

I think they say 3/13 to be on the safe side. They probably sent all the letters out on friday, so they should be coming soooon.

AHHHHHH!!!! I hate spring break!! Can't check my mail....

I don't really think so. I’m in New Haven, if all decisions went out yesterday then all Yale students should have them today. There has to be other Yale students on this board.

Maybe acceptances would take longer to get to New Haven (or anywhere( bc they might be sent second class?

And not that I think you two are the only ones that got rejected. Only that 1) a lot of rejections will probably arrive Monday, and 2) many people don't usually post when they get rejected.

My heart goes out to you guys, 06applicant and Josh1105. 🙁

Thanks for letting us know to be on the look out. I am sure you both have other equally amazing options.

Any HMS acceptances yet?

postmarked March 10. People have received rejection letters already at Harvard. These are people who interviewed with HMS. No acceptances have been received. No waitlist letters received either. Good luck

So, I thought I'd be clever and try to figure out if I got into Harvard before my decision came in the mail. I went to the FinAid website.

https://medweb.med.harvard.edu/finaidtemp/index.htm

I saw that only accepted students and current students could access it, so I clicked on the link, hoping I could input my info and see if I was an accepted student.

Unfortunately, I got this message

The Harvard Medical School Financial Aid Office is in the process of preparing the application for the 2006-2007 academic year. We will be sending out information as to when this will become available in early March. In the meantime, if you have questions about your aid, please feel free to call us at 617-432-1575. Thank you.

I guess they found out about last year's bugs and are being more careful this year....I'm going to keep checking back though and see if I can access the MY HMS FINANCIAL AID site in the future.

Maybe this year's Financial Aid will be MyCourses registration - I tried and it said I wasn't in the system, but that doesn't mean anything. If anyone else wants to try, the website is http://mycourses.med.harvard.edu/ - and be sure to let us know your results!

How did you try that? You need a Harvard ID first so that you can register.

Click "New User Registration," then "Register Now," and then you can use your name and ssn... or so I think.

Oh Damnnnnnn, they are coming.....I love nyc, but oh haaahvad....Good luck everyone. Sorry for those that got booted, sucks!!! Good luck with other schools.... I will not be able to sleep for the next couple of days damnnnnn..

As a disincentive to looking up your status online through the process mentioned above, several HBS students did something similar last year and were subsequently rejected even after being accepted.

Some people can also tell if they have gotten in unofficially (while waiting for the official letter). Don't ask me how. Good luck to those waiting for a decision.

Hahaha, only in the harvard thread. This is awesome.

IIRC, those students worked into a database that wasn't on the public domain to get their decisions (the admissions computer system?) That's illegal. Me putting in my information on a public form isn't illegal and wouldn't be grounds for withdrawing acceptance (if I were so lucky). At least, that's my take on this.

EDIT: Here's an article on it - http://www.computerworld.com/securitytopics/security/story/0,10801,100206,00.html ; apparently, the HBS students used a username that was not theirs to get into the admissions software, which is 'hacking.'

It has more to do with ethics than "legality."
