Sounds like you love psychology, just major in that and do well while finishing all your med school pre-reqs. Double majoring doesn't really give you an advantage, you could spend that time on ECs or something you enjoy. I've always thought it was a mistake to double major, theres no way its going to make or break you getting into med school and your time is going to be precious enough as a pre-med.

dont do things just to "look good" for medical school...especially when it comes to choosing a second major. pick what you enjoy, not for what medical schools will think.

I'm contemplating the same things as you are, probably. I'm pretty set in a bio related major, but I'm not sure whether to get a double degree or not. I was thinking of physics, haha. Even though I'm terrible in that subject, its just so interesting.

kids kids, there is no "magic formula" of major and ECs that will get you into med school. Do what you're genuinely interested in and are also good at, and your passion will shine through in your grades, ECs, essays, and interviews.

Typical SDN answer to a typical SDN thread 😴

ditch the bio major and double in psyc/philo. you won't regret it.

I agree. IMHO, This would be the most impressive combo because they don't overlap at all with pre-med courses, and as a result you'll find like 50 bio/psych double majors for every 1 psych/phil pre-med. Also, lots of med schools recommend exposure to both philosophy and behavioral sciences, right up there with taking Biochem.

you get a marginal benefit from double majoring. adcoms don't care what major you are. just get the GPA and MCAT, that's all that matters. if you want to do it for the hell of it and you enjoy the material, go for it. if you're doing it for med school, it's useless.

FWIW, I majored in Bio and Psych and as an MS3, the Psych major is infinitely more useful. During preclinical years neither one made a big difference but saved me a few hours of studying.

Take classes you enjoy and major in whatever you happen meet the requirements for.
