UVM accepted me. I absolutely loved the school. Now I have 2 interviews coming up pretty soon (About a week and half) to UPSTATE and Albany. I don’t know how good these schools are...the facilities, the curriculum. I took a look at the match list, and I think all of them are good. I need your help deciding on whether to go to these interviews...will the schools impress me? Is it worth going?

You have to excuse my ignorance when it comes to medical schools in the states...I am Canadian!

P.S I really never ever thought in my wildest dreams that I would be in a position to NOT accept an interview.

SUNY Upstate is an up and coming school (receiving more money from the gov, new children's hospital is being built there, etc.). It might also be the cheapest non-in-state school you can go to, so if money is an issue, I would say it's worth a look just based on that.

I don't know much about Albany, so I can't help you there.

The administration is very proactive in increasing Upstates standing.

If you can afford to goto interviews, it might be worth while seeing all the schools. You might like them after seeing them.

Hey sony...

I totally know what you mean about taking more interviews...after I got my first acceptance, I had two more interview offers at MSU and NYMC. I decided that for me, I was not nearly as interested in these schools as I was in the five that I had already interviewed at-UVM and MCW included! I figured that even if I got accepted to MSU and NYMC, I probably would not go since I had more appealing options for me. True, you could also go there and fall in love with the school, but I was so sick of interviewing that the money and stress just wasn't worth it. Hey, if you have the funds and enjoy interviewing...go for it. But if you're happy with the schools you've got, then I doubt you would regret cancelling the interviews too much. I cancelled my two interviews and have no regrets...good luck and go UVM!😀

just my opinion, but if i were accepted somewhere i would stay away from albany. tuition is very expensive. plus, albany is very cold and is not the most happenin' place.

the number of spots available is also misleading and not detailed in the MSAR. Albany tries for a class size of 140, but 50 of the slots are already reserved for students from special undergrad programs in upstate NY.

Unlike at Albany, there isn't really an instate preference (except in tuition rates) here at Upstate. As for if this place will impress you, I don't know; what are you looking for?

There really is no in-state preference. They don't get any money from the state.:luck:

Hey!!! I'm from the Albany area and I think that Albany is a great place to live!😀 There are plenty of things to do. It also is not that cold here and we don't get that much snow. I know that there are a lot of special undergraduate programs though, so you are probably right about the spots available. I don't really know much about the medical college, but Albany Medical Center is the largest hospital in Albany and they seem to have a lot of resources. Good luck whatever you decide!:luck:

I would go, because UVM is obscenely expensive for out of state applicants.

Seriously - I'd go to at least 1 of them. After 4 interviews so far, it does surprise me how each school has features that really impress me and make me reconsider where I'd be likely to go if I have a choice. And UVM IS crazy-expensive.

yeah if its not financially burdening i would go to at least one of them that interests you the most.

but i may be biased...b/c i have holds (nice version of a rejection) from both of these places.. 😳 hehe

congrats on the acceptance tho!!! 🙂

EDIT:

dude, your icon is... *gags* haha

dont worry i am not competing with your seat. I am an international student

After thinking it over, I am going to SUNY UPSTATE for the interview.

How I came to the decision

-looking at the poll (15 Upstate versus 1 Albany),
-looking at past SDN trends
-expense (Upstate 33K, Albany 40K)
-SDN interview feedback (Upstate all 7s and Albany ONLY 5s)
-awesome MS1 and MS2 Upstate SDNers who urged me to go visit their school.

Thank you everyone, so much...

Hopefully interstellar you get my interview invite at albany...I am calling early morning to withdraw (perhaps call around 12 pm if spaces opened up... 🙂 My interview was scheduled for Nov 16th...

haha thanks i need all the good vibes i can get 😀

good luck w/ the other interview!!!
