Would being invited to interview at the same school again be considered a good sign? Last cycle, it was my only interview, but this cycle I received an interview there again along with another at a T5. I’m hoping this means my application is stronger this year, but I don’t want to get my hopes up. The school I’ve interviewed at twice is my dream school, but I struggle with talking about myself and advocating for myself, so I never feel great after interviews. I just wanted to see if anyone has insight into how re-interviewees are viewed by admissions committees. Does interviewing again generally mean I have a higher chance this time around?

If your application and interviews are better this cycle, then yes, your chances of acceptance will be higher. If not, then no. Of course, this is also relative to the caliber of your fellow applicants. Just my thoughts.

From my own experience and what I've heard from other applicants having self doubts post interview is the norm.

Funny enough, I interviewed at a top school last year and didn't get in. It was my only interview. This time, I have 3 and that school wasn't one of them. My applicant actually demonstrated better mission fit this time too, so not getting from that school is interesting.

Sometimes, a school will think that you show promise but need a bit more time to mature, gain more experience, be more prepared to start med school. So, a year or two later, when your application reappears, the school will invite you in the hope that you are well prepared now to be admitted.

Respectfully, that makes 0 sense to me. Medical school is 4 years long so if you want the applicant to have 1-2 years to mature, it'll happen during medical school.

And you have how many years of experience teaching medical students??

We can select and admit a few hundred applicants who will be ready on Day One. (Some who are selected choose to go elsewhere which is why we select a few hundred more than we actually have room for.) Hundreds more just aren't ready and we don't need the hassle of dealing with them while they come up to speed. We let them sit out a year and have another look if they choose to reapply. Or maybe another school didn't see that need for more time on the vine and admit them but many folks get interviews but no offers their first time around.

That makes sense.
