Hey, I am new here and it seems like a really cool site😀 . I hope there are other psych residents who post here??

I found this information yesterday...see link below. I am wondering what others thoughts are on this as it has caused a big problem at my residency. One of the attendings is in favor of this, most of us are not etc.

Look at the bottom where it says Breaking News.

I think I smell a rat. It uses the APA's old letterhead (not the snazzy new caduceus-looking thing), isn't signed by the president, and just doesn't sound like an APA release. Plus, it's nowhere to be found the the APA's website.

Maybe. I got it from an attending. It supposedly has not been officially released yet, but the lobby already happened.

Checked with APA... it's a complete hoax. Not sure who those e-mail addresses and phone numbers are for, but it's not the APA.
The phrase "grasping at straws" leaps to mind here. For those of us opposed to psychologist prescribing, it's actually fairly encouraging that they're having to resort to these tactics.

Which states are psychologists currently given prescribing priveleges in?

Doc Samson is right, this is fake. Your attending has been duped. I'm confused regarding your comment, "it has caused a big problem at my residency". Are you in a state where this is happening already?

For Neurotica; currently Louisiana and New Mexico have prescribing rights. Hawaii is very close and almost happened last year. There are several states where a bill has been introduced, but not much materializing.

In CT, advanced psychiatry registered nurses (APRN) are prescribing psychotropics in addition to NPs, PAs. The people we should feel empathetic toward are the poor patients who are being followed and managed medically by RNs instead of well trained physicians. In my experiences thus far, these patients have been managed very poorly by APRNs and I have made written recommendations for them to be followed by psychiatrists once they leave our inpatient service.

Imeant that people in my residency are arguing with each other about this. Some are actually OK with it, most not. One of the attendings is and he has taught classes in their training programs.

It seems like HI will go through, and California is going to make a serious push (they have some serious union support, and the on going legal case with the prisons). I think there are 3-4 other states that have proposed legislation (Illinois and Montana i think?) I'm not sure of the other ones.

It seems like it is going to happen in more and more states, I think what should be looked at is a strict standard for training, residency, etc. I am on the clinical pysch side, and I support RxP, but I am concerned that the training will vary too much if it is not properly addressed. This is where the APA (med) can come in and work WITH the state legislators and the APA (clin), and set standards that we can all live with. New Mexico and New Orleans both did this, and I think it turned out well, based on the data they have collected about medical complaints, medical errors, etc.

The RN Pharma programs actually have much lower standards than the psych RxP programs, and i think some of the psych programs can still use some work....so that tells you something about the RN lobbyists.....(maybe APA (clin) should hire them. )

Not cool psisci...

...and the fake APA website is really pathetic.

haha--this is hilarious...

Yeah. Kinda of funny. But isn't it a little strange that someone would put the effort into doing something so....lame?

Effort? That was a sloppy, lazy hoax. The font was horrible, the grammar sub par, and is it too much to ask for a spell check? Seriously, I expect more from a PhD. I mean jeebus if you want script rights at least be able to put together a decent deception.

Also, I love the header, "some info from our APA." It's The APA. There is only one. 😎

Actually there are 2, and the psychology APA is much larger. Has it occured to you that this may be a joke by one of your own??? Interesting social-psych experiment to say the least, and I get blamed.

I'm only familiar with one. <shrug> I am glad to hear that yours is much larger though. Is that in girth or length? Regardless, you should be very proud.

Uggh, yeah that sucks to be blamed for such shoddiness. I love farce and chicanery as much as the next guy. But with workmanship that obvious I would try to distance myself as well.

 Maybe you should blame it on a PsyD or an MSW?

Gee, I dunno....

Clearly not written by a physician, as the wording is awkward for how a physician would write - obviously done by someone who has the issues of another profession weighing on their mind. The same consistent bizarre grammatical errors made in dozens of previous psychology-related posts, improper use of question marks (multiple) in declarative sentences, poor sentence structure, lack of understanding in how a view on yet another midlevel increase scope argument would cause a "big problem at my residency," or any residency for that matter. Pointless use of ellipses in the subject line, other posts defending said poster...shall I go on?

I won't even go into 'hard' evidence that isn't generally available to the average poster.

Don't you have a wais-IX to go score or something? Bust out those templates!

For whom is the question.

I like to think of it more as a mystery than a "social psych experiment." Seems you've been peeved with psychiatry again lately based on recent posts. I'm getting nervous knowing I'm one of the "most poorly trained" to treat outpatient psychiatry patients when I start my yearlong outpatient stint this Monday. I hope my patients don't know that this...
