Any recommendations for textbooks for the 4th yr rotation or pocketbooks to carry? ...particularly for someone planning on going into EM

If there happens to be any up to date threads on this that I missed...well...let the attacks begin ...i'm ready 😀

EM Secrets is the best book I've seen for the 4th year rotation.

As far as books to carry in your pocket, I really like "Emergency Medicine's Top Clinical Problems" by EMRA.

I'll have some lightly buttered popcorn...just kidding. Good question, I think. I have the EMRA book, but will likely pick up another resource.

EM Secrets was nice (Question & Answer format) but a lil hefty.

I also got a Baby Tintinalli (pocket guide) for a deeper explanation on various topics. This never fit in my pocket, but small enough to leave on the desk at the workstation.

For quick reference, I carried Tarascon Adult & Pediatric Emergency Handbooks depending on the rotation.

Tarascon's are very useful... i still carry them on my person at all times in the ED.
EMRA book very cool... no index, but good for covering the important parts of management, as well as the "most likely" pimpings. =)

also, if you have a PDA, PEPID is excellent (if you have the $ to drop, but they'll give you a month free). and/or 5 minute clinical c/s (usually can find a cracked program for free).

good luck...

i liked using "An Introduction to Clinical Emergency Medicine: Guide for Practitioners in the Emergency Department" by ) by Swaminatha V. Mahadevan and Gus M. Garmel.

a basic beginning E.M. text that is accessible for med students. the text is organized by chief complaint and has ~10 pages covering the basics. not as comprehensive as Tintinalli.

here's the amazon link:

Hi -
Any more ideas for PDA resources???? 5 minute ER by skyscape? Emergency Medicine, 6th edition??

Thanks!

WHat about "Emergency Recall"? I liked the surgical recall for the surgery rotaion as a quick pimp reference.

I had it and thought it was really lacking.
