So I just received an invitation for the U. Washington secondary application.

Does anyone know just how heavily they screen OOS students?

I was honestly a little surprised to get one since I'm from Georgia, not from a disadvantaged background, and only have a 32...

Thanks for any input!

Congrats! I'm not sure how hard they screen, but at least you got a secondary. Was is email or snail mail and if you don't mind, what was your GPA? I got a 32 MCAT too, and I would LOVE to go there. thanks!

It was an email, sent yesterday. My GPA was a 3.92 overall (3.86 BCPM, 4.00 non-science). My interest area is public health and working with disadvantaged populations, which I discussed in my PS; however I was under the impression that my international focus might not be so great there (ie they're looking for physicians to stay and practice in the area)
Good luck!

i just received a UW secondary and I am OOS as well. i'm not sure what they're really looking for with this optional "autobiographical statement". it sounds exactly like a personal statement. i don't want to be penalized for not filling it in since i was lucky enough to get a secondary...

any thoughts on this? thanks!

UW says that they accept people from outside the area if they are interested in serving disadvantaged populations. I think they probably want people focused on staying in the area but perhaps that's not all they're interested in.

they screen pretty hard for OOS students, as majority of them are from the WWAMI area.

but since u got a secondary ur probably in good shape so good luck applying!

damn, i'm so jealous. jealous juice!!!! i'm sure it will be difficult to get in - i didn't even apply because i thought the bias against non-WWAMI was so strong - but the fact that you got a secondary means you jumped the first hurdle. congrats!

Congrats on getting that secondary. I applied (knowing full well that my chances were bordering on impossible) but haven't heard anything back yet, except the "we are currently reviewing your app" email. I would LOVE to get a secondary from them since my husband and I actually plan on ending up in Washington state after med school, but I won't hold my breath waiting for UW.
