Received this a few minutes ago. Looks like they're ramping up to start their screening process.

Dear Applicant:

The Office of Admissions has received your 2008 American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) application to the University of Minnesota Medical School - Twin Cities. Please take a moment to become familiar with our application process at http://www.meded.umn.edu/admissions/application_process.cfm. In the coming months, the Admissions Committee will review applications according to the selection criteria posted here http://www.meded.umn.edu/admissions/selection.cfm. Supplemental applications will be available to applicants in another email message. Reapplicants and international citizens must meet certain requirements before they are given access to the application. These requirements are listed here http://www.meded.umn.edu/admissions/reapplication.cfm and here http://www.meded.umn.edu/admissions/international.cfm.

As an applicant to an Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) institution, you assume certain responsibilities when it comes to the progression of the application cycle. Please visit http://www.aamc.org/students/applying/policies/applicants.htm in order to review the AAMC recommendations for medical school applicants. It is important that these recommendations, especially items three through five, be observed so as to guarantee both applicants and admission committees of an organized and timely selection process.

The Admissions staff will utilize the preferred email address (as entered on your AMCAS application) as our primary means of contacting you. Be advised that many email messages from our medical schools are sent simultaneously to multiple applicants. Some email providers (e.g. Yahoo and Hotmail) use filters to ensure that users do not receive spam or multiple-recipient emails. In some cases, these filters can prevent our messages sent to groups of applicants from getting through to you (please go to the following site http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/faq/email.htm for an explanation). Whatever preferred email and mailing address you choose must be kept up to date with AMCAS in order to maintain the integrity of the application process.

If you have any questions pertaining to your application, please visit one of the following online resources. For issues relating to the AMCAS application, please review the information at http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/faq/. Inquiries concerning the University of Minnesota Medical School application cycle and policies should be referenced against our FAQ page at http://www.meded.umn.edu/admissions/faq.cfm. Please contact the Office of Admissions ([email protected]) with any issues that are not resolved by the aforementioned resources. The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity welcomes applicants to contact them by telephone at (612) 626-2173 or (612) 625-1494, or email at [email protected] or [email protected].

Thank you for applying to the University of Minnesota Medical School - Twin Cities. To learn more about our institution, please visit the Medical School Education website at http://www.meded.umn.edu.

Yay, they are finally recognizing our applications! Your post made me check my email, and sure enough I have the same email in my inbox. Thanks for the heads up, I had almost given up hope that they would ever acknowledge me 🙂

I know, right? I was worried I'd already been screened out pre-sec (I'm OOS).

Ya same here Zip, but checking SDN always reassured me that I'm not the only one who hadn't gotten anything from UMTC. I got a secondary last year, so let's hope for this year, too! They look really seriously at reapplicants, and have a funny reapplicant system. So hopefully that works in my favor. I would LOVE to go there. (Tied for #2)

Anyone else who applied to Minnesota not get this e-mail? Hopefully there's some sort of mix-up, because I love Minnesota and Minneapolis.

I haven't gotten anything from them yet, except a letter about some SNMA club. I had my primary done in July and I added Minnesota to my school list around mid august.

I'm still working on west virginia's 4 page-long essays.

I went to undergrad there and haven't received the e-mail either. Would love to attend the Univ. of Minnesota.

I'm guessing we'll receive it within the week.

I haven't received it, either. I was verified on 8/13 and submitted on 7/13.

that email just came today. Too bad its not the actual secondary.

got the secondary just now (finally), but it's not working. BOOO.

it's working now.

how do you get the damn "token" to work? I've tried getting in after creating an account but my confirmation token isnt working?

it's not working for me! when i try to register a screenname and password i get an error page. anyone having the same problem?

Anyone else read the second email closely?

Beginning this year, everyone who submits an AMCAS application will be invited to complete the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Medical School's supplemental application.

Sad. I thought they were waiting cause they really liked me and wanted to be sure I was good for them. Turns out, they're just lazy and slow. Big turnoff for this school.

Also, does anyone know if they are still doing that weird sheet that accompanies recommendation letters? It didn't really mention them when I was adding people but I don't want to Interfolio them over if it's not what they're looking for.

i'm having the same problem...any ideas anyone?

I kept getting the error page also, but when I tried to login using the actual name an password I attempted to create it worked. Give it a try.

it wasnt working cuz the password i wanted to use was only 7 characters long.

it has to be at least 8 for windows i guess

The Univ of Minnesota secondary app website sucks a lot. I couldn't even connect to the personal comments section without it giving me all these errors. I emailed them and they told me they are having problems and are working on it.

Has anyone in the "first wave" gotten a decision yet? Paul White had said at the interview we would hear by today...

Got this email on the 14th (because initially they said we would hear by Dec. 15th)

Dear Applicant:

I am writing to update you on the progress of your application. As part of our change this year you were told that if you applied by October 15 ( and you were interviewed by November 30), you would receive a final decision by December 15. However, because of the three week strike in September and the delay with the secondary application, we are slightly behind schedule. Nonetheless, we should be able to notify admitted students of their decision next Thursday or Friday. This will be done by phone call to the number listed on on your AMCAS application as your preferred contact. We will then follow-up these calls with the official acceptance letter shortly thereafter.

I appreciate your patience and your continued interest in the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Sincerely,

Paul T. White, J.D.
Assistant Dean of Admissions

I suppose that means today or tomorrow. yikes!

waiting, waiting, waiting....by the phone of course. 😳

No phone call yet...as anyone heard from them today already?

Maybe they'll call tomorrow. God, I need a drink...

Paul White just let me know via phone that I have been accepted. He called at around 3pm central time. MN is my first choice!!! Time to start drinking😀 Good luck to everyone else who's waiting.

still waiting, still no word. i think i'm going insane. is Paul White the only person doing the calling? perhaps in alphabetical order? AUUUGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!😱🙁

Yes, maybe in alphabetical order. My last name starts with 'T' so maybe he just hasn't gotten to me yet....

OMG!!!!

thats what i'm hoping!!! my last name starts with 's' so i'm right there with ya!

everytime the phone rings i have a heart attack. this situation cannot be good for my health.

Do you think it's possible he'll call half of the list today and the other half tomorrow? I mean, he probably has 50-60 phone calls to make right? The class is 180 or so...so how many do you think they'll take today?

Anyway, maybe there's still hope if we don't here today...right?:scared:

My last name starts with an M so perhaps they only did the first half of the alphabet today.

OMG I hope you're right. M is exactly half way through the alphabet...so that makes sense. God I hope so....

ugh i just feel like throwing up.....i mean i would assume he's going to make phone calls tomorrow as well because he said in the email that people would find out thursday or friday....🙁

haha, this is funny, i got this same letter, except one sentence was different. shady.....

I'm pretty sure this means I'm not accepted.

No offense man, but o God I hope that if we got the 'Thursday or Friday' email that means we're in. I could hardly sleep last night I have such a stomach ache over this. The whole application process and the waiting is torture. UMN is my top choice-if they accept me I'm withdrawing everywhere else I applied. Game over. I hate this s***, I think I'm getting an ulcer...

yeah UMN is my top choice too. i hope you're right about the email thing...i still feel like throwing up. i would also like to leave the house because i've been trapped here since yesterday. but clearly that won't happen unless today is over or paul white calls. preferably the latter. :barf:

Also, does anyone know if they are still doing that weird sheet that accompanies recommendation letters? It didn't really mention them when I was adding people but I don't want to Interfolio them over if it's not what they're looking for.

No, these aren't required anymore. I called and asked as I submitted my secondary.

Has anyone gotten a call today?

I'm starting to sweat here...🙁

no phone call yet for me. 🙁
i don't know what to think anymore....
i'm going to start freaking out pretty soon here.

When did you interview? I was in the Dec. 13th group and they told us at the beginning of the day we would not hear until mid-January. I dont think this e-mail means you were not accepted, you just may be in a later pool of applicants.

anyone receiving any calls!?? i'm officially going crazy.:scared:

Nope---nothing. I'm afraid to check my mail now for fear of a rejection letter.

I feel sick.

so does anyone know about what time i should stop waiting? and accept the fact that i didn't get accepted even though i haven't gotten a letter yet?

this sucks. if they rejected me, the least they could have done is sent the letter out already so i wouldn't have to sit here and wait like a ******* for two days.
i still have a tiny bit of hope because crabbycakes got a call around 3 pm yesterday. but 3 pm is fast approaching and my phone is refusing to ring.
so i don't know what to think. i think the email posting really got my hopes up. stupid me.😡🙁:scared:

I agree - although no one will be flat-out rejected at this point (waitlisted for now), the least U of MN could have done was send out an email yesterday or today to those not initially accepted so we don't act ridiculous holding our cell phones for 48 hours...

I agree. God this is so depressing....

What would be the latest time he would call do you think? 6? I'm going to try to be optimistic until 6...

6 pm would be great, but I was thinking more along the lines of 4:30pm because that is what the "official hours" are for the admissions office. Do you think it's possible that he hasn't started (or just started) calling people?
Do you guys know of ANYONE that has gotten accepted today?
I've pretty much been on an emotional roller coaster since this morning. I think if I said I was depressed right now it would be a vast understatement. omg.

what do you mean that no one will be flat out rejected at this point?? i thought they were admitting/rejecting people on a rolling basis? (at least for the first wave people...)

I'm pretty sure Dr. White mentioned no one will be rejected first wave unless you scared them pretty bad. Instead, you'd be waitlisted until later on in the Spring whereupon the committee would re-evaluate your file and assign you either a number in the "waitlist line" which would be snail-mailed to you, or you'd be deemed "too far back in line," hence, a pseudo-rejection. So, if nothing by phone this evening, we'd most likely be receiving mail stating we're on the waitlist until further notice... that's what I've peiced together from Dr. White and talking to Lola Galvin in admissions...

Sorry guys.

I just called the admissions office and talked to Paul (I think--it sounded like his voice). He said all of the calls have been made.

We will receive a letter in the mail about our status I guess.

sweet. i don't feel like crap right now.

by "status" do they mean waitlist/reject? or if there is no real rejection do they just mean waitlist notice. once again, would have been nice to let us know sooner. i don't even care if it came by email. anything is better than not knowing.
